No, if it stays off too long my dad will stop getting his VA checks and he needs those checks. Congress better pull their heads out of their asses and get this shit done.

I do not think such benefits are being suspended.

John Stewart is rather brilliant in his indictment of the Republicans: http://gawker.com/jon-stewart-goes-o...ver-1433427444

And it's incredibly pathetic that Congress will still be paid during the shutdown, particularly Cruz, who has stated that he intends to keep receiving his salary: http://www.thedailybeast.com/article...-shutdown.html

I see very little incentive for them NOT to keep the government shut down... They believe that they are acting in their constituent's best interest, so they don't feel like they are hurting their constituents, and their still being paid!

Not at first but I read if this shutdown lasts for more than a few weeks it will.

I don't think it will last that long but who knows?

I love the Obama's statement where he said, "people will find that they can get health insurance for 100$ or less a month"

What he DOESN'T say is that, that insurance barely covers anything at all, you have insanely high out of pocket costs, and really all it does is give money to the insurance company.

    Directly from their site...

Balancing monthly premiums with out-of-pocket costs

As with all health plans, you'll have to pay a monthly premium. But it's also important to know how much you have to pay out-of-pocket for services when you get care.

Premiums are usually higher for plans that pay more of your out-of-pocket medical costs when you get care. For example, if you have a Gold plan, you'll likely pay a higher premium, but may have lower costs when you go to the doctor or use another medical service.

With a Bronze plan, you'll likely pay a lower premium, but you'll pay a higher share of costs when you get care.

Platinum plans will likely have the highest monthly premiums and lowest out-of-pocket costs. The plan will pay more of the costs if you need a lot of medical care.

In general, when choosing your health plan, keep this in mind: the lower the premium, the higher the out-of-pocket costs when you need care; the higher the premium, the lower the out-of-pocket costs when you need care.

So yeah, it will cost you 100 a month if you never use it, but if you do use it you are screwed.

    5,000 deductible.

He may as well have said, if you take the 100$ a month plan, you better not get sick or you will still go bankrupt.

Yep, keep praising the small premiums, but forget to mention the insane out of pocket if you need to use it.

It will end before the end of the month, the repubs will cave, because really, The dems hold all the cards. They have the "moral high ground" and the media. Even if the repubs were right in what they were doing, they would never come out on top.

So the Tea Party Republicans in the House have successfully shut down the government without even affecting the Affordable Care Act.

Can someone give me a simple reason why? How is this program, that helps so many people get affordable healthcare while not affecting anyone who already can and do, so harmful to our country?

I like how you (or the site you linked at least) conveniently left this part out while you're trashing Cruz still getting paid...

Ted Cruz Pledges Salary To Charity If Government Shuts Down

DALLAS — Sen. Ted Cruz is pledging to donate his salary to charity during any federal government shutdown.

Cruz announced his pledge in a statement Monday evening. On Friday, Cruz had told an Austin conference that he had not planned to forego his paycheck as a U.S. senator if the federal government shut down.

Cruz has vowed to halt funding to the White House-backed health care law or shut down the government by trying. His 21-plus-hour speech in the Senate last week irked colleagues in both parties but energized conservative activists.

This statement is so stupid it really shouldn't even be acknowledged.

If it wasn't so sad, I'd be amused at how Obama's speeches are always prefaced by, "Let's make sure we know who to blame, here..."
