I got cough drops and ibuprofen. It doesn't really hurt, it's just scratchy and uncomfortable and now fucking TERRIFYING. I'm afraid of sleeping and drowning in my own throat puss and blood.

Oh, you won't drown. There's very little actual material in there. If you could magic it out intact to look at, it would probably be the size of a few coffee grounds. Most of what you see in your picture is just swelling. Given the amount of pain PK's describing, his was likely a LOT bigger than yours, and he didn't drown. It's amazing how much a tiny thing can hurt, when your body isn't happy with it.

It will vary depending on how soon you get it treated.

Ahahahaha. On a serious note you'd have to let it go untreated for quite awhile before it would rupture on its own. And if it's just itchy right now then it's still at a somewhat early stage.

If it's a peritonsillar abscess then it's pretty unlikely the antibiotics are going to help and you'll have to get it lanced/drained which is painful as fuck. You'll also probably be recommended to have your tonsils removed because once you get one of those types of infections you are highly prone to get it again. I had my right tonsil get one 4 or 5 times.

I had mine removed when I was in 5th grade, I think. I don't miss them.

How sad. I'll take the injury than being lazy to have avoided it. There's a lot of things I can still do without that achilles, just not as much fun stuff as I normally do. Looks like I'll be doing a lot of one legged rowing for a while haha
