Thread: Sexual harassment?

  1. Default Sexual harassment?

I am a regular poster on here, but I wanted to be anon for this question. I've been having some issues with a guy I work with, but I am worried that if I report it to his boss I will be perceived as one of those overreacting females. So, since you guys might actually represent a cross section of humanity, I want your opinions.

    Here's a summary:

    • unwanted hugging everytime I see him
    • grabbed my ass
    • has talked about his erection to me during phone conversations
    • has made comments to me that he'd like to fuck me
    • touches me when we see each other (on the hand, arm and knee)
    • comments on my clothes and how i look in them
    • puts his arm around me and pulls me close, even after i step away

This stuff makes me uncomfortable, and I've said as much to him. He hasn't stopped.

So, what up, PC? Am I overreacting? Or is this worth saying something about?

PS - Anticor, don't out me!

I want to say just fuck the guy already, but you should report it. It is pretty textbook sexual harassment.

You're not overreacting. You have said it makes you uncomfortable and he has not ceased the behavior which makes you feel unsettled. It is of a sexual nature, clearly. You have the right, and you should say something.
I got that job, by the way

If talking to him directly does not change his behavior then report him.

Gotta document that you've asked him to stop... put it in an e-mail or something... The more documentation you have to support your case, the better.

    Agreed.

Ask him one more time, make it very clear. "I want you to stop touching me. I am not interested in you." I love the email idea.

If he lifts a finger ever-after, report away. I'm not saying give him one more chance for his benefit, but it makes for a more compelling case if you do it in that way.

Whatever you do don't ignore it. Give him a notice that enough is enough and if it continues talk to someone.

I used to manage a small company a few years ago and had to deal with this situation.

Documentation is key, if it turns into a he said she said thing, its hard for any manager to take a side. He could deny it and walk away unpunished. Which is fine if you want it to stop, but it's rare for this type of thing to stop without a punishment (transfer, demotion, firing, etc)

Don't do anything with him outside of work, restrict all communication to just business. Tell your manager/boss (since you already told him you are uncomfortable).

Sexual harasment is nothing to joke about, most women and espically men are afraid to report it. You made your point by telling him to stop and that it make you uncomfortable, it's not something you have to reiterate to him.
