the monarchy still technically has some real powers. They can remove and appoint Governor Generals, for instance. They generally do it purely under the PMs direction though.

Well, sure. A new monarch could come swaggering in and be a total douchebag and start ordering people around like he's King or something, but...that would probably only result in Parliament removing what little bit of power he has left.

British Parliament has no effect on those abilities. Only the Governments of the countries in which he would be appointing/removing Governor Generals.
