Thread: 1030 question

    Default 1030 question

So I recently got this song. I am mainly a polearm bard, but when trying to use it, it pretty much just did not work. I pulled out a 2h flute and either trying to focus or open use it, i received:

"You can't seem to focus your song."

    Here is an example:

You also see a moor eagle that is flying around and a moor eagle that is flying around.
Obvious paths: north, south, west, down
    >1030
You change your tune slightly, adding the element for Song of Sonic Disruption to your song...
    [Spellsong preparation time: 10 seconds]
    Your spellsong is ready.
You weave another verse into your harmony, directing the sound of your voice at a moor eagle.
You can't seem to focus your song.
    Sing Roundtime 3 Seconds.

Am I doing something wrong here??

Hm. Don't you need lore training for the focused version or something?

I thought the instrument added 60 manip lore ranks? Also, did it auto focus or something? Can i set something so it does the aoe version instead of single target?

Try "cast" rather than "incant" and see what happens.

Looks like my incant was auto targetting 1 critter. And I guess i still do need at least 15 ranks to focus the target. I was able to use 1030 no problems when i casted it.

And i am adept at flute

Incant always single targets with 1030.

Not so. The benefit of an instrument scales up as your skill increases, until it maxes out at Adept.

An adeptly played 1-handed instrument is worth 30 phantom ranks of Manipulation, and an adeptly played 2-hander is worth 60.

    HOWEVER!

You MUST have 15 actual ranks of Manipulation trained to focus it; the instrument won't do that for you under any circumstances.

If you try playing it without the instrument, it checks your manipulation ranks to determine how much to enhance the song. If you're using the focused version, it subtracts 15 ranks from what you know before calculating the enhancement. So to max out the song without an instrument, you need 60 ranks of Manipulation for the unfocused version, or 75 ranks for the focused version (75-15=60).

As far as the incant thing goes, I always prefer to prep/cast every single time, since it makes it easier and cheaper to switch targets. I have a wizard script that does this:

    Code:
    .sd
    prep 1030
    cast %0
    .sd = open 1030
.sd target = focused 1030 at target

I'm sure it's completely trivial to write this up for SF, Lich alias, whatever (I already use "sd" as a Lich alias for something else, though).

Anyway, hope that helps you out, OP

Does an instrument count at ALL towards your DS? Is it treated like a runestaff without the ability to perry?
