It's 50" from the basement ceiling hole to the switch in the wall on the main floor. Problem appears to be just above the basement ceiling in the wall, so probably a foot above the hole. Yes, load bearing.

Basement have any plumbing needs? Water heater nearby or something like a washer? What's above your basement?

Just repiped the house with pex, no plumbing needs. Above the hole is a hall/bedroom wall. Inside that wall is where it is stuck. Near the floor, it seems. There is an outlet in the wall that I might be able to remove the box and get my hand in there. As long as it's an old work box with the screw flags. I think it probably is. If that doesn't work, I don't see any way around cutting a small hole in the plaster and lath and patching it when I'm finished. Still frowning. Everything had gone so smoothly to that point, something was bound to happen I guess.

so why the hell did you ask me all those questions??? lol I got the outlet box out and reached in there and felt a wire staple making it stick. Fit a box cutter in there and though I couldn't see what I was doing, I could feel it, and I got it cut and freed the wire. Installation went smoothly from that point.

Because I'm not there and I'm trying to figure out if it's just an old building, a pipe. Never know, some people misplace bodies too.

Wiring up the basement. Had to run a wire to the main floor to a switch by pulling it through using the old wire. It's stuck. On what, who knows. Gonna have to cut a hole in the wall.

Just read this article and it was an eye opener for me. I had no idea such an industry even existed, let alone was so pervasive in companies and in our everyday lives. And I can even see it in my own online behavior as far as internet browsing and such. Don't do social media, and very rarely post on this board, or any other board for that matter, but then, I doubt Kraner is using this tech to make us hit refresh on our browser for the very latest on what has been posted. But do I see it in my past addiction to Gemstone, or WOW, or Guild Wars? Very much so.
