There has to be a balance between being able to be yourself and being able to change. You shouldn't change for someone, but you should be able to change yourself if you want to, and if someone you care about does something different I think it's okay to try it out and see if it fits you. Of course that's a bit difficult when one person has religious fervor about something as many vegans do (there are the practical ones occasionally).

I agree with that, I just don't think you should enter into a relationship with the expectation that the other person is going to change. If they want to/do that's great, but you should be okay with the status quo.

And seriously, you can support your so's beliefs and behaviors without mimicking them.

Uh, no.

If you have core values/beliefs that are extremely important to you and your partner MUST share those same values and beliefs, then get with someone who has them from the get go and will have them whether you're there or not. Someone who doesn't have to be changed to have them, essentially.

If you have other values/beliefs/hobbies/whatever that are not dealbreakers so you get with somebody who is not like you in those senses, don't get all butthurt if your partner does not share the same beliefs and enthusiasm, etc and don't expect them to change that.

It's okay to be your own separate individuals with differing opinions and hobbies from one another. I'd rather my partner was straight up and sincere with me than feign interest in something they honestly don't care about, and I'll do the same towards them. And yes, it goes both ways, because girls are certainly guilty of doing this (feigning interest) in an effort to make a guy like them more.
