Maybe I'm totally off here, but if your girl wanted a guy who was all 'ra ra animal rights!" and vegan, shouldn't she have, I dunno, decided to date a guy who was vegan in the first place? You can support her in what she does without doing it yourself and having to jump through hoops for the pussy.

There has to be a balance between being able to be yourself and being able to change. You shouldn't change for someone, but you should be able to change yourself if you want to, and if someone you care about does something different I think it's okay to try it out and see if it fits you. Of course that's a bit difficult when one person has religious fervor about something as many vegans do (there are the practical ones occasionally).
