Same deal with mine. So far it seems to be working great. Any idea if crit padding on top of the resistance would really be worth the silver?

I think so, as the protection stacks. Also, that set CAN take a set of Nature Resistance.
A 7x HCP set of that armor with 70+% Either Fire/Nature temp resisted is about as nice as you get outside of old auction armor. The only reason I dropped it as a priority as I got a set with MCP, and that trumps the other set, if just barely.
Edited to add: Expect a surcharge for that permanent protection to get it padded. I think it is an extra 1k PPs. The Temp padding DOESN'T add any extra charges through PPs, though. So, I would have that done before having it padded. In my mind, Regyy is the only way to go.
