Businesses closing during COVID was unfortunate but it wasn't the total fall of capitalism or society. Thankfully something was done by our government giving bailouts to companies who met requirements to get them that prevented whole lot more of them from closing. It wasn't just corporations it was mom and pop shops and everyone in between. I have sympathy for them but someone might also turn around and say if those businesses that closed were not able to pivot during the pandemic then that's free market capitalism in action.

What's happening right now is a billionaire who's completely disconnected from what life is really like on the ground is going through all the executive agencies and cutting things he knows nothing about. He's cutting employees who are going to suffer in their own economic way but it will affect everyone down the line who benefits from the services that those employees provide including Medicare, Medicaid, veterans, taxes, scientists figuring out bird flu, money for farmers to feed kids, and so on. Totally different situation.

You guys keep bringing up miners. I have sympathy for that too but if you see the writing on the wall you pivot to make a change. Not everyone will be able to do that and it's tough when it happens. I know. I had to pivot in my career when technology made doing things the old way obsolete. Luckily I was young enough and had the resources to do it.

Humans are the steward of this planet. What we do affects everything because everything is linked. Dumping poison into the water or atmosphere is not good for anyone. We have to take future generations in the consideration when we make decisions right now. Doing things for a buck isn't going to fly anymore. More has to be taken in consideration before we act.

Federal employees, including our military, who refused to get the vaccine or adhere to mask mandates were fired.

Biden tried to get private sector employees who refused to get the jab fired by mandate of OSHA. The only reason that didn’t happen is SCOTUS intervened and blocked it at the last minute.

The public sector jobs lost will be nothing compared to what the private sector will go through. If you're at all paying attention to AI advancements, you know 10's of millions of labor hours are vanishing to automation. It's advancing so fast it's almost impossible to dedicate to an AI application.

Those companies complied with the law in firing employees. Trump and Doge did not. Further, Trump and Doge lied about the reason the employees were fired, citing poor performance when that was not the real reason. They just flat out lied, thinking their supporters are too venal to care. If the federal government wants to fire employees, it must do so following the laws Congress passed for dealing with federal employees.
