So if industry "standards" were violated it's on people not parties. I don't know anything about this topic really and I wont pretend to, but damn do you ever get tired of sticking your nose in his ass? I used to think some of your stuff was kinda logical but now that you've gone into full retard the last 6 months it's been to pathetic to even sound serious.

Don't think he's talking to me, I don't post that often.

They are free range and have access to to Kalmbach Feeds Henhouse Reserve. My newest layers who are a little younger than the main flock are almost 100% free range to the point I am waiting for 6 to go out and 4 to return just like the late White Lightning who's pile of feathers we found in the woods some weeks later RIP White Lightning.

Good deal, stay away from Purina and Purina made layer feed. Loads of flap about it on Homesteader forums about the possibility of it causing laying issues.

Appreciate that =). As a matter of habit/principal I stay away from anything Purina (including for dogs/cats). They are too big and provide too many things to be good. They definitely serve a purpose but I will gladly pay a premium for the good stuff. I am just glad I have a feed supplier that makes their own protein blends for our goats. I know for some areas the only viable option is things like Purina...which the only option beats no option.

Orthin are you a full time rancher? Like you do this for a living or is it on the side? I've always wanted my own chickens, goats, but think it'd be a ton of work if you do it to any scale. Like gardening, love the idea of fresh produce... hate digging in the dirt.

Loaded question =). It does not generate me any income (operating at a loss) but it is a full-time job. I also have a full-time job that I can work remotely that pays for this money sink. It is very demanding and and equally rewarding. My current numbers are 26 chickens, 28 goats (kidding season in full swing so numbers will rise in march) and 4 alpacas. My wife handles the chores/tasks in the morning hours and I pretty much end work to start farm work.

ways I "generate" money. Selling kids, selling eggs and selling alpaca tea (poop/mixture for garden fertilization). Virginia has tight laws so I can't sell raw milk which is a major pain because we get a ton of milk which could sell easily with home school groups and folks who like to make their own decisions. I can freely offer you milk if you come to my home and you can freely donate to my farm but that's a dangerous thread to tug at.

Having a couple chickens is very low maintenance. 2-3 chickens should give you enough eggs for yourself and won't be a major time suck for you in terms of clean up and maintenance. You can build your coop or places like Tractor Supply will sell pre-built homes for small numbers. If you did want to go that route I would say chickens for sure.

Goats are my love (as my picture shows) but they will take more maintenance, land, money and time. If you want them for milk you will have to have them bred which is a bigger pain in the ass because its tough to find a breeder (closed herds prevent disease issues) and goat math is a motherfucker. 3 of our does kidded and we have 5 babies. We got 6-7 more bred and expect 6-14 babies from them.

Happy to talk more about it if you have more questions =) I am still a garden noob though so don't ask me about that lol
