Thread: Reparations

    Question Reparations

CNN — A committee in San Francisco has released an extensive proposal for reparations that includes a one-time payment of $5 million to each eligible Black resident.

The San Francisco African American Reparations Advisory Committee, created in 2020 under the city’s human rights commission, was tasked to develop a plan to address “the institutional, City sanctioned harm that has been inflicted upon African American communities.”

If I never owned any slaves, why should my tax money go toward paying reparations?

There are very few children of slaves still alive. And their surviving grandchildren are not young. The payment of reparations would be too far removed from the victims of slavery.

If you were going to pay reparations to the descendants of slaves, $5 million is excessive, even for a city like San Francisco with a very high cost of living..

In San Francisco, the threshold for what’s considered wealthy is a net worth of $5.1 million. That’s the highest total in the survey, which examined 12 of the biggest metropolitan areas in the country.

To be considered “financially comfortable,” a San Francisco resident would need a net worth of at least $1.7 million, the survey finds.

I'm for all current slave holders paying this. If you tax the general public, how's that gonna work? Just tax white people, I like Pocahontas am part Indian, so am I exempt? What about the brown and black slave holders?

How do you pay it out, just to the documented decedents of former slaves? I'm sure there is some documentation, but could I, part Indian, also claim some reparations, as I do have african in my genetic pool according to 23 and me. How much melatonin must I possess to cash my $5m check? Will we all have to submit blood tests (DNA) and family trees? Where should I put my address to get my check?

I mean, I know this is just total troll, but I can't be the only one to think of all the loop holes, right?

The committee selected by the governing body of the city can recommend everything they want, but there's no actual funding or desire to invoke reparations for people three generations removed from the issue of slavery. Though I welcome the State of California pursuing such, the Republicans deserve to take over the state again in order to purge the worst of the far left socialists.

Africa has a lot of reparations to pay. Between enslaving their own people and enslaving Europeans...

Maybe they could consider ending the live slave markets going on currently first?

Well, we know that's not going to happen, it's Africa. One of the most mineral rich continents on the planet, perhaps the Brits were onto something.

I thibk I have heard that direct reparations are probably not going to happen, legally or politically there are too many roadblocks. What will probably be more likely is a general tax or appropriation that will be a combo of cash stipend and affirmative action plus, like special job training, job preference, education, housing, food. That's my prediction

    This.

I know we all saw Roots in public school, but it’s fiction. White people didn’t go into the jungles of west Africa to catch black people like animals and put them in chains. Slaves from Africa were sold by Africans. Slavery was multiculturally common practice all over the world until western Christian nations decided it was wrong in the 19th century.
