the box uses slabs/bars of forging metals. any type. will keep enchant of the metal, and it will be sanctified. the slivers and shards degrade as you use them, i think they last 3-5 uses, i can check on it.
cranking it to make the slivers/shards (can be turned multiple times, will give the message below when you cant turn it anymore):

releasing (flip switches between sliver and shard):

You flip a small recessed toggle on the side of the white ora box!

scripts that i have found with the actual slivers/shards themselves:
