Then a couple days later he showed back up on a new "Naijin" Discord account.

I thought that was what happened, but someone who knows more about Discord just explained that's what happens when you do an actual log off of Discord. It has nothing to do with actively changing your username, so I guess he did a full logout of Discord for a few days to "take a break".
