Lying to the FBI is a serious offense- especially when it's done in an investigation with national security implications. That's arguably the worst possible version of lying to the FBI. This person should be doing jail time.
But he lied on his own volition. He was working for an oppo research firm- every campaign hires these firms to do research on their opponent. It's very normal, and it's ultimately a good thing for our democracy. This person wasn't a member of the Clinton campaign, or even an advisor. And there's no evidence that the Clinton campaign wanted him to lie. In fact, I'm positive they did NOT want him to lie given the unforgiving political climate at that point.
I will say, though, that I'm somewhat surprised by your response. Last I checked, conservatives didn't have a problem with people lying to the FBI. 7 different Trump campaign officials or advisors were indicted for lying to the FBI during an investigation wit unprecedented national security implications, all of whom were big names except for one. How many times did we hear, "Yeah they were indicted, but it was just for lying to the FBI!"?
