The first thing that strikes you about the shield is the weight, which is about 5 pounds. In your best estimation, it's worth about 4,750,000 silvers. You can also tell that the illthorn round shield is predominantly crafted of illthorn.

Though you don't yet have a full understanding of the shield's qualities, you get the impression it would be a tricky project (498 difficulty) for an adventurer to modify.

You sense a faint aura of magic surrounding the shield. From the pitch of the vibration you determine that the purpose of the shield is as a shield. Also, it seems to have some sort of enhancive properties.

It has a bonus of +30 from a normal shield, and the way it vibrates in tune with your voice tells you that it serves some type of defensive purpose, different from that of normal armor. It also has some type of special ability, but you can't tell what yet.

You sense that the shield can be altered!

You can try to WEAR, REMOVE, PUSH, PULL, GAZE, and NOD at the shield.

You can tell that the shield is as light as it can get.
    >l at shie
Cleverly fashioned from the distinctive bark of the illthorn tree, the outer surface of the shield is deeply furrowed into narrow scaly ridges. Several of the vicious thorns have been pried up for easy viewing, their sharply pointed ends explaining the ominous reputation of illthorn. The inner portion has been polished with a clear lacquer emphasizing the natural wood grain. A silver-washed illthorn leaf inset into the wood underneath the handle is the only other adornment to this naturalistic piece. You also notice a small enchanter's glyph.
