i do very much prefer staying alive over killing quicker and find that the hard rt and stance change is just overkill. things die pretty easily as is

Bone shatter is a great spell and is certainly able to carry a character through to cap. The thing with it is that as you gain levels there will be a lot of critters that are either outright immune to it or difficult ward with a high enough endroll to be effective. Not to mention having to dispel magical critters to ward them gets expensive fast. Also, as you get to higher levels, you'll want to stance up and channel 1106 more often anyway, giving you 3 sec of hard RT.

Luckily, empaths don't have to choose between being effective bolters or CS casters, it's pretty easy to be effective at both. 2x in Spell Aim and eventually getting 50 ranks in Summoning lore is plenty to be effective with 111 and 118, And you'll already be pretty good with 1110 with the Transformation lore you have already. Setting up a macro or short script for each of those three spells will mean you're offensive for less then a second and the versatility will mean you don't have to refuse as many Adv guild tasks or avoid hunting grounds cause they have critters you can't deal with.

Lastly, 3x in PF is nice, but it's hardly necessary unless you tanked STR or AGI.

alright so i bit the bullet.

i had to drop 2x pf to 1x, fa to 1x and hp to 1x -1, but i'm now 2x spell aiming, 20 in manipulation lores, 20 in telepathy lores, and 20 in summoning lores. i can now web bolt and empathic assualt. new goals are to bring pf back up to 2x, and then continue lores as i'm not over trained in lores in order to have access to all the fun stuff.

I think you are headed the right direction, but can you post your latest skills? I think it is really important to prioritize getting your PF back up to 2x as soon as possible as I hear this helps quite a bit for maneuver defense. It may be worth dropping HP back down to closer to 1x to do this.

For reference, here is my Empath's training that I have really focused on refining over the last few months and am pretty happy with the results thus far (switching from pure CoL healer to pure GoS bolting/warding hunter/healer). I am not sure how much it helps though as my empath is almost double yours in levels. My next priorities are mastering GoS (at 12 right now), getting summoning lore up a lot, then probably increasing spell ranks (empath for CS and the others for capabilities).

I haven't exactly nailed down this spellcasting thing (coming from playing a warrior), but I am finding when hunting warcamps (which I pretty much do exclusively), I am mostly using 118 (web bolt), 111 (fire spirit), 1106 (bone shatter), and a bit of 1110 (empathic assault). No specific order there (probably 111 and 1106 the most). Still running out of mana eventually after a long session of hunting with the lumnis brooch (even with enhancives), but temporarily making my warrior a mana battery for him, and don't expect this to be an issue when i master GoS at which point i can convert stamina to mana.
