Thread: Any wizards out there with redux?

Still not sure why you wouldn't just do the +6 ranks in wizard, so you can have 919 going full time. Also, 2x in EMC so you can have 515 going and then those spell failures won't be so dramatic.

    Where's the fun in that?

I'm curious to see what kind of beast I can build that no one else has done before....well, no one else coocoo enough has tried. The release of Ascension just helps fuel the possibility of a whole different form of warmage..... Redux Mage!

Redux factor without spells is approximately .305. Your character's spell penalty (33 spells at level 100) is ~ 19%. Therefore, with the spell penalty the redux factor is ~ .247 (.305 * .81)

    Total redux points: 2734

    Damage Calculations

    1. A greater construct swings a massive arm at you!
    AS: +443 vs DS: +322 with AvD: +50 + d100 roll: +49 = +220
... and hits for 26 points of damage!
    Neck vertebrae snap.

The massive arm is a flamberge with DF .325
    Redux factor: .247 (1 - .247 = .753)
    Reduce weapon damage factor: .245 ceil (.753 * .325)
    Success margin: 120
    Reduced raw damage: 29 (120 * .245)
    Crit damage: 5
    Total reduced calculated damage: 26 [.ceil(.753 * 34)
    Calculated damage 26 = actual damage 26

    2. An Ithzir janissary swings a red vultite bulawa at you!
The energy surrounding you condenses into hard stone, softening the blow!
    AS: +411 vs DS: +266 with AvD: +42 + d100 roll: +19 = +206
... and hits for 21 points of damage!
Torn muscle in your left leg!

    Redux Factor: .247 (.753)
    Mace DF: .250
    Mace DFr: .189 (.753 * .250)
    Success margin: 106
    Reduced raw dmg: 20 (106 * .189)
    Crit dmg: 7
    Calculated dmg: 21 ceil(.753 * 27) = actual damage 21

    3. A greater construct swings a massive arm at you!
    AS: +443 vs DS: +315 with AvD: +50 + d100 roll: +57 = +235
... and hits for 33 points of damage!
Blow to your back cracks several vertebrae.

    Redux factor: .247
    Flamberge DF: .325
    Flamberge DFr: .245 ceil(.753 * .325)
    Success margin: 135
    Reduced raw damage: 33 (135 * .245)

The skill shortfall penalty to spell hindrance is .05 per skill point. Add this penalty to 1 and then multiply the base hindrance by this result.

    Example: 16% base hindrance

    Skill required to reduce a spell's hindrance to 16% is: ((16 * 20) -10)) = 310 skill (210) ranks

    At 300 (200 ranks) skill the multiplier is 1 + (.05 * 10) = 1.5 where 10 is the skill shortfall. This yields a spell hindrance penalty of 16% * 1.5 = 24%
    At 290 (190 ranks) skill the multiplier is 1 + (.05 * 20) = 2 where 20 is the skill shortfall. This yields a spell hindrance penalty of 16% * 2 + 32%
    At 280 (180 ranks) skill the multiplier is 1 + (.05 * 30) = 2.5 where 30 is the skill shortfall. This yields a spell hindrance penalty of 16% * 2.5 = 40%

This .05 per skill shortfall penalty applies across the board as do the multipliers. Whenever you are 10 skill short of the base hindrance skill requirement the effective spell hindrance will be 1.5 * base hindrance. The hindrance penalty with a 20 skill shortfall is (base hindrance * 2) etc.

    Example: 10% base hindrance

    Skill required to achieve 10% base hindrance: ((10 * 20) - 10)) = 190 (90 ranks)

    At 180 skill the hindrance penalty will be 1.5 * 10 = 15%
    At 170 skill the hindrance penalty will be 2 * 10 = 20%
    etc.

This demonstrates how a relatively small skill shortfall can result in a very substantial hindrance penalty. Of course there are maximum hindrance caps for each armor.

This is the formula posted on the wiki: Total Hindrance = Base Hindrance * (1 + (Required Bonus - Current Bonus) / 20).

Leveled! Takes longer now that I'm shifting 55% of my exp to ascension exp.

    [redux: Level: 56]
    [redux: Primary skills: 58]
    [redux: Secondary skils: 175]
    [redux: Tertiary skills: 58]
    [redux: Redux points: 1454.0]
    [redux: Spell ranks: 33]
[redux: Your Redux estimates to be 8.23%.]

Just one more ATP to put into Armor Use and I can start wearing my studded leather. After that I'll drop the next 5 ATPs into OHE and then 4 into STR and then 4 into CM - this will boost my AS by +9!

Watch it bitches! Reduxmage is on the loose!

I love having free 5 points of crit padding from spell 520, plus an extra 10 points of crit padding when stunned, plus nearly 9% redux. Can't keep this dwarven reduxmage down!

I've officially moved into my Studded Leather (yeah!). Got some good enhancive properties on it to boost my OHE and PF along with 5 CER of damage padding.

7x/T2/SWCW falchion with all my enhancives and COL active gets his AS to 357 so he doesn't have any issues hitting anything he hunts.

With all his enhancives on, if they do indeed help his redux, he's sitting at:

    >;redux
    --- Lich: redux active.
    [redux: Level: 56]
    [redux: Primary skills: 62]
    [redux: Secondary skils: 191]
    [redux: Tertiary skills: 99]
    [redux: Redux points: 1681.0]
    [redux: Spell ranks: 33]
[redux: Your Redux estimates to be 13.39%.]

He's up hunting right now, out kicking the crap out of vipers, ogres and boars in the blighted forest.

Only thing I need to finally decide as I slowly creep closer to capped range (which is a ways off) is if I bite the bullet and accept the fact that he'll probably need to be wearing chain mail and suffer through the 40%+ spell hindrance or work on making a quality set of brig and have a much nicer hindrance of 12% once he can get his AU ranks to 130.

    Leveled again!

Takes a bit to level with a 45/55 experience split between standard exp and ascension exp, but it's been nice earning ATPs to help get my AU ranks up sooner to get into studded leather and now to help boost my PF to increase my redux faster.

    [redux: Level: 57]
    [redux: Primary skills: 60]
    [redux: Secondary skils: 180]
    [redux: Tertiary skills: 59]
    [redux: Redux points: 1497.0]
    [redux: Spell ranks: 33]
[redux: Your Redux estimates to be 9.33%.]

With my new level and the 1 ATP I just earned that I put into Physical Fitness, without any enhancives I'm close to 10% redux.

Only irritation I really run into right now is the stupid ass black ogres that dispel. I might change over from casting Earth 520 to Water 520 to see if that helps much....the spells that always seem to get dispelled are 913, 911 or 401. While 913 and 911 only cost me mana to recast, if my elementals get dispelled I have to go back in and find someone to recast them for me. I guess that's the plight of not knowing any 400s as for this reduxmage.

Is the 40 percent fail including the paladin armor skill to reduce it?
Khaladon starts to turn the crystal knob, but stops with a frightened look on his face. He begins shaking uncontrollably and flies across the room, as though by some invisible force.

**SPLAT!!** Khaladon careens off the far wall, slides down the smooth wood panelling and collapses into a quivering heap on the floor, with only his dignity bruised.

No, never tried it. No paladin on the test server for me to utilize and I've never tried it in the normal instance of the game....

Then again, I suppose I could utilize the test server and roll up a couple of characters - one being a paladin and just make use of LEVELUP verb to reach the necessary skills/ranks and test things out.....that just sounds like extra work and I'm too lazy right now to try it.
