How were you the closest NCO? Were you on staff duty or did you live in the barracks?

I was the only one that lived in the Barracks. They were all from the Boot drops and I was a new join, so we formed our own New joins unit while the Battalion was on post deployment leave. The only duty there was at the regimental level and they didn't call up there when shit happened in our area.

While in undergrad, I shared an apartment with my best friend from high school.

Things were going well and we decided to get cats. Both of us ended up getting a ~3 month old kitten. Mine was a gray tuxedo and his was a gray tabby.

One weekend, I ended up having a Saturday off from the video store so I decided to do my laundry. I heard the washer buzz so I moved the wet clothes to the dryer, started it, and loaded up the washer.

I played Knights of the Old Republic on my Xbox for about 45 minutes... an hour.. somewhere in there.

Something reminded me of the laundry so I went to check it.

As I approached the utility room, I heard...


THUMP..... THUMP..... THUMP... rhythmically.

I opened the dryer to a warm blast of shit and blood. Laying amidst the clothes was a dead kitten, limbs askew, with eyes dead and dull from dehydration.





We were all upset that my roommate's cat ran away.
