    4 ranks of armor use
    1x Brawling
    1x Combat Maneuvers
1x MjE until at least 9 for 509 (though probably 1x MjE for life until 100 anyway)
1x Air Lore until 8-10 ranks.

Train anything else you like. Remember you can instant migrate skills for 19 levels, so you can swap spells around and get full wizard spells for your level.

Use punch until level 7 when you have 8 ranks of air lore, then swap to spam kick. Just keep 506 going, and you'll be killing easily. The first 6 levels can be done in like 1 day, and then after that it's fun. No reason to bother with tiering up (UAC style) at the early levels. 2-3 kicks usually is enough to finish most sub-20 creatures.

Thanks. Trying this out! After 20 would it make sense to go more "pure mage", or how long do you recommend the brawling approach? I just gave it a go and it did seem to work!

I have raised a wizard from level 0-100 with unarmed combat, and he's post-cap now still with 0 ranks in spell aiming. It's fun, but if you're looking for the most optimal style, then a pure bolting wizard with all the fancy area spells is mechanically stronger. Be sure you switch to pure
while you're still level 19 because once you hit 20 you lose the instant migration and stat reallocation.

Oh, and you have 5 stat reallocations at the INN before level 20. You should top out LOG and STR if your goal is to level fast, then switch to a balanced stat allocation (usually aiming for optimal stats at level 100) prior to reaching level 20.

By level 20, you should have:

    20 Ranks in MnE
    13 Ranks in MjE
and everything else you can manage into Wizard (hopefully around 911 or 909).

The goal is to get 425 ASAP, then get MjE up to level (or 430), and then worry about wizard ranks. Usually stopping at 913 for a while until you get MjE and MnE up to par.

    4 ranks in AU
    1x in PT always
    2x Spell Aim
    1x MIU/AS/HP
1-2x EMC - my pure wizard went 2x in EMC early on and has not regretted that decision since Rapid Fire uptime is awesome.
Get 20 ranks in fire lore, and then decide how much you care about the other lores (20 ranks in fire lore will evenly boost the DF of all bolts, while unlocking steam bolt - which is the most useful of the bolts).

Whatever else you can spare into perception with some consideration for climbing/swimming based on where you plan to hunt.
