I don't know what the origin of it is, but it's been around for a long time in video games as generally the highest tier, above A. I think it's maybe a Japanese thing, but not sure.Originally Posted by Gelston

S is used mostly in Japanese video games because they are so good at them they needed a tier above A. Also, D and F tiers are almost never included.
