Thread: Impale (attack) Damage Factor Table

Default Impale (attack) Damage Factor Table

Some of the original info in this post was incorrect and has been removed.

It appears that this damage table applies to some/most/all? horned creatures when their horn-like appendage is involved in a charge style attack. It is more lethal than the standard creature charge attack with significantly higher DFs and the addition of puncture criticals.

    Code:
A great stag tries to impale you with his antlers!
      AS: +161 vs DS: +87 with AvD: +42 + d100 roll: +67 = +183
... and hits for 42 points of damage!
       Strike connects with shoulder blade!
You are stunned for 2 rounds!
    Table added to wiki. https://gswiki.play.net/Impale_(attack)

As it turns out Impale is not actually a unique damage table. I was checking charge attacks and noticed some AvD discrepancies. It looks like there are at least 2 or possibly more than 2 charge attack tables. I just checked urghs and their charge attack DFs, AvDs, and crit types (puncture, crush, unbalance) exactly match the great stag's impale table I just posted. What they both have in common is a horn type weapon.

An urgh charges at you with its tusk!
A great stag tries to impale you with his antlers!

But the stag also has another charge attack which doesn't include the antlers and will only inflict crush and unbalance crits (no puncture).

    Standard charge attack:
A great stag charges at you!
    AS: +163 vs DS: +26 with AvD: +49 + d100 roll: +39 = +225
... and hits for 26 points of damage!
    Bones in right arm crack.

    MBP AvD: +49
    Plate DF: .150

    Horned charge attack:
A great stag tries to impale you with his antlers!
    AS: +155 vs DS: +25 with AvD: +31 + d100 roll: +29 = +190
... and hits for 31 points of damage!
Minor puncture to the left leg.

    MBP AvD: +31
    Plate DF: .285

I'll need to test this a bit more and correct the wiki.

Hm. Sounds like charge works like a dual-table weapon does, like with a handaxe doing slash or crush damage. More complicated than I’d expect, but it makes sense.
