Thread: Pincer (attack) Damage Factor Table

Default Pincer (attack) Damage Factor Table

Pincer attacks are non-humanoid creature weapon attacks. It is one of three natural weapons (bite, charge, pincer) available to cockatrice and perhaps other creatures. It is characterized by the creature snapping at its prey with its pincer.

    Code:
A cockatrice snaps at you with its pincer!
      AS: +99 vs DS: +11 with AvD: +37 + d100 roll: +79 = +204
... and hits for 36 points of damage!
       Feint to your head!
Quick flick at your weapon hand!
       Nasty cut to right hand!
I've added the table to the wiki.

I thought they did, but all I'm finding in my kiramon-hunting logs is them hamstringing with their pincers, and them waving their pincers around wildly after clawing or charging.

    Edit to add:

The clawing is an actual claw attack, at least according to the AvD (this is with brig on):
    Code:
A kiramon worker claws at you!
      AS: +212 vs DS: +467 with AvD: +23 + d100 roll: +74 = -158
       A clean miss.
The worker chitters and waves its pincers wildly.

Kiramon do this, or something very similar to this with their pincers, it's just rare. But they can disarm you with it when they pincer your hands (edit: I thought? Although looking back at a couple of logs I don't see any disarms, just hard roundtime. I thought I've been disarmed by them before but I could just be misremembering).

    Okay, update, mandibles not pincers.

A kiramon defender lunges at you with its open mandibles!
It clamps on to your matte rolaren backslasher, wrangling and thrashing with it in its powerful jaws!
    ... 1 point of damage!
    Loose wrist lock.
    Roundtime: 10 sec.

Natural creature weapons such as pincer, bite, claw, charge etc. are a class of melee weapons like OHE, blunt or polearms. Each creature attack type has its own DF table with associated critical damage types. But a creature can have a natural weapon attack, such as charge, and also have a charge maneuver.

    Black bear (MELEE)

When the combat display looks like this then you can be certain that it is a standard melee attack and not a maneuver. When it is not displayed, then the converse is true.

A black bear charges at you!
    AS: +188 vs DS: +249 with AvD: +30 + d100 roll: +48 = +17
    A clean miss

    Black bear (Maneuver)

    Successfully avoided:
A black bear charges at you, but seeing it coming, you acrobatically spring over the black bear!

    Failure to avoid:
A black bear charges at you, throwing her weight behind her shoulder, the bear knocks you painfully to the ground!
    ... 15 points of damage!
    Nice shiner to left eye!
You are stunned for 3 rounds!
    Roundtime: 5 sec.

In both the black bear melee and maneuver attacks the critical type is unbalance. Depending on the creature the maneuver critical damage type may be different than the melee type.

    Brown boar (Melee)

A brown boar charges at you!
    AS: +181 vs DS: +145 with AvD: +31 + d100 roll: +52 = +119
... and hits for 3 points of damage!
Charlie horse to the right leg!

    Brown boar (Maneuver)

    Successfully avoided:
A brown boar charges towards you, but you leap to the side at the last instant, avoiding a gruesome fate! The brown boar stumbles and falls!

    Failure to avoid:
A brown boar charges suddenly, his vicious tusks catching you with a glancing blow and knocking you painfully to the ground!

    ... 5 points of damage!
Minor puncture to the right leg.

Note that the critical damage from a boar's charge maneuver is puncture (Minor puncture to the right leg) while the melee critical is unbalance (Charlie horse to the right leg!).
