This is 100% true. There’s piles of shit on the street corner and dirty needles everywhere. I found 2 syringes one on a seat on a BART bus and another next to a pile of trash in the middle of a sidewalk. I thought they were exagerrating the level of shit there but I think it’s the exact opposite.

On the flip side, right across from tarp city, are brand new glass and steel buildings offices of Google and PriceWaterHouse that scene was surreal. It changed my mind about total capitalism being the end all about economic development. I think a salting of socialism is required to set the taste for our society.

Montreal, too, though it's more their subway that's super clean and nice than bus service. But in America, city buses be dirty. As an aside, I'm sure Montreal does have a bus service, but their subway is amazing. It's always snowy and cold there, so they burrow into the ground like mole people. The subway is pretty much fully heated, all 32 kilometers* (updated from the google) of it or somesuch, and it serves as the entire city's shopping district. You can walk underneath Montreal in the dead of winter without a coat, from one end of the city to the other, and shop along the way.

To be fair, lots of big cities in the US are fucking disgusting. It's not a Democrat or Republican thing, it's lazy gross fucks on both sides.

I've been riding city buses for decades and haven't found a single syringe.

I've never found a syringe in the city buses in my city either. This place is well above the national average in all crime statistics.
