I dunno. Recent history at least has Ross Perot. He pushed something like 20% of the vote in '92. That's insane for an independent. You get the right independent in there and I think they could pull an upset victory in this kind of political climate. Trust in the government is (and I have no stats to back this up, just educated guessing) at an all time low.
I mean, there's no one off the top of my head I could name that could be that person right now, but I mean..Ross Perot's main deal was that he was a gojillionaire and wanted to be President. You get somebody passionate and charismatic? That upset is there to happen. We elected a fucking reality TV star simply because the other options within the parties were shit.
