I really don't see why there needs to be a big argument. I think most voters would be ok with taking subsidies away from oil and coal companies on the grounds that those tax dollars be returned to their wallets. Most consumers are going to make the better economical / environmental choice because it's their money. I don't think it's possible for us to find what is the best balance between value and environment when we use subsidies.

I can attest to the environment being far better than it was before the 80's as far as mans influence on it.

The only way you can effect change is by changing yourself. You have to reflect that change onto others through your own actions. Projecting your idea of change onto others will always be met with resistance.
