Also, I just completed Sunfist - which was an extremely fun society to join and would recommend it to anyone. I don't know how beneficial it will be to me in the short term, but I think it will be much better when Mana and Stamina both improve.

So this will mean its time for me to move on to my own and hunt on my own. I am 2k from level 20 - what do you guys recommend? I have 20 ranks in fire lore and just over 80 mana. Should I make my way to Icemule? Can I hunt there just on my own spells? I know obviously minor fire is really good against most creatures in this area. Also, how does Steam work on them for the most part?

Sunfist is a lot of fun for a wizard once you have 100+ stamina, and sufficient mana to keep the major sigils running. Until then, it can be a challenge to juggle everything.

As for hunting areas, I enjoyed killing arch wights with steam, but it's not for everyone (because they use earthen fury, which just wrecks low level characters). If you dispatch them quick enough, they're not really a threat. Also, solhaven is a good place to hunt wights and woodsmen (20/23) that are pretty susceptible to steam, and you'll be able to step up to cyclops after that followed closely by foggy valley hunting.

There are dozens of hunting areas for your 20s. Castle Anwyn, Zombies, the temple of love in WL, plus the Graveyard. You could hit up TV and get wealthy off the undead out there. Lots of options.

502 works great in Icemule if you are fire attuned. Lots of death crits for very low mana.

So currently hunting nightmares with steam.....turned level 45 (after a 9 month break) and having no problems. Thinking these are an easy hunt for the next couple of levels while I work a bit on my rogue who is level 44 and trying to find things for him to hunt in landing area. What is a good target to hunt around level 48/49 for my wizard?

Things to consider.

1. Do you want to be able to enchant and gather enchanting energy efficiently?
2. What are your thoughts on rapid fire, willing to fixskill later to get rapid fire?
3. Where do you hunt? Is perception or climb/swim a pre-requisite to access your hunting grounds?

I went with a non-traditional pure, and it worked very well. 20 fire lore, for steam bolt, then focused on getting water lore to 40 ranks so I could max out the bonus from enchanting. After that, get 21 ranks in air lore (threshold for disk and a bunch of things as well as unlocking tonis bolt).

Along with that, I dumped climb/swim and perception to never be more than .5x my level, and went 2x in EMC. That allowed me to keep Rapid Fire going pretty strong while in the early 50s-60s, and now that my wizard is 94, he can keep RF up nearly 100%.

Wizard Ranks are not essential unless you're going for really difficult enchanting. You can actually stop at 30 ranks in wizard spells, and still be able to enchant most items to 7x as long as they don't have significant difficulty modifiers (i.e. not powerfully ensorcelled, or super padded/weighted). This frees up a lot of TPs for other skills like EMC. At 94, my wizard has 60 ranks in Wizard spells, is 1x in MjE and 75 ranks in MnE. This works very well in his hunting area for killing power.

The one thing you learn early about wizards is that they probably have the most diverse options when it comes to hunting styles.

Not sure if I am doing things right with the lores yet. I can already see how challenging things will get after 50. Tried to hunt the citadel in rivers rest and got hit pretty bad by a snake.

Also, if you have a DS problem and are using a runestaff, try 2x ArcSym and MIU.
