It's not. Nobody but the shooter is at fault, in my opinion. I'm willing to bet this was a response to a slew of lawsuits from people that had a lawyer talking in their ear about how a payday is just around the corner and they wouldn't dare fight it because the backlash and blah blah blah.

Whether MGM goes ahead with the lawsuits is another issue entirely. Right now it's all just a shitty situation made worse because lawyers got involved.

I don't see what kind of argument they could even begin to try and present though. Hiring 58349402 lawyers to defend against lawsuits makes sense, but suing the victims makes literally no sense at all from any angle other than deliberately trying to look like trash and piss people off.

From what I understand MGM isn't suing the victims to receive monetary damages or anything of the sort, rather they are just looking for a judgement stating they aren't responsible for the deaths/injuries caused by the shooting and apparently suing the victims is some sort of legal maneuver they are taking to get that judgement.

Suing victims is pretty bad optics for sure, at the same time how is MGM responsible for the shooting.

There must be more than 1000 people who can make a claim. The families of everyone killed and injured would have some standing to sue along with anyone at the concert who experienced trauma. I understand that MGM is trying to get ahead of this. Their survival may be at stake. It is definitely a bad look but I doubt they have a choice.

Also a good point considering wrongful death suits by the families. The judge-shopping claim by the lawyer was interesting too.

With the amount of guns and ammo he was able to get up there it's negligence at best.

For sure if he was carrying each gun in his hand, but weren't they in suitcases and bags? And wasn't he there for like 2 weeks before he started his shooting? He could have easily brought one bag up a day and no one would bat an eye.

Even if he brought 10 bags up all in one day I'm not sure what the hotel could have done differently.
