Also here is some food for thought. Almost every single native bird in the US is protected by federal law. This means you cannot kill the bird for any reason unless you get special permission. This extends to their eggs too. Shit you can't even gracefully move a nest filled with eggs unless you want to get into some legal trouble.
This means a bird egg has more legal protections than babies (or clump of cells if you need to make yourself feel better) in many states in the US.
We have a bridge that need maintenance, and for the past 15 or so years they've been trying to do it, and paint it, but it requires a environmental survey. Turns out protected birds next on it. They've finally decided to say fuck it and build a new bridge.
