This is an older item, I got it from a friend when he left the lands so I am uncertain how old or where it came from. I've had it, and never used it (because it's gross), for years. The key is pretty sweet, which is why I kept it so long.

a jagged crimson skeleton key - The skeleton key is constructed from what appears to be a mix and match of broken bones. The bones are drilled through and threaded with brass wire to form a miniature skeleton. Clasped within the tiny bony arms is a tiny skeleton key.

Analysis:
You analyze your skeleton key and sense that the item is largely free from merchant alteration restrictions, but the creator has stated that "The item has restrictions on changing the noun."
The creator has also provided the following information:
You get a strong sense that the key can be altered by any merchant so long as the noun remains "key" and the description does not contradict the inherent nature of the skeleton that is permanently frozen to it. Only a small handful of merchants, however, will be able to work with you in setting containers to be able to be locked and unlocked with this key.
Currently you are able to use TAP, SHAKE, KISS, WAVE, RUB, and TURN the skeleton key.
You get no sense of whether or not the key may be further lightened.

You gently tap your skeleton key. The skeletal key unfreezes and flails and claws at the end of its chain for a moment before reverting back.
s>shake key
You grasp your skeleton key by the legs and give it a good shake! The bones creak as the skeletal face unfreezes and gives a horrible wail! You nearly drop your key in surprise!
s>kiss key
As you bring your skeleton key to your mouth to kiss it, the skeletal face unfreezes and bites your lip, causing you to almost drop the key in surprise! You gape in astonishment at the key, stunned. You really are stunned!
Ss>wave key
You hold your skeleton key by its legs and spin it overhead. As it spins, an eerie, earsplitting wail echoes from it.
s>rub key
You buff your skeleton key to a gleaming shine. You hold it up to the light, then give it one more rub.
s>turn key
You turn your skeleton key over and examine it for flaws. The skeleton unfreezes for a moment and reaches up and pinches your nose! You drop the skeleton key as you reach up to rub your battered nose.
You are stunned.

You pick up a jagged crimson skeleton key.

Japhrimel takes his black branding iron and jabs the superheated metal into your open wound. You let out a scream as the hot iron sizzles against your flesh, which begins to smoke and burn.
