Thread: Enchanting Weighed Weapons

  1. #1

    Default Enchanting Weighed Weapons

I was wondering if it is possible for a Wizard to enchant a Claidhmore. Some said yes, others say no. So would it be better to just buy a magical claidh or to just have it enchanted by Premium Point instead?
Leafiara just took a long walk off of a short pier!

<< I was wondering if it is possible for a Wizard to enchant a Claidhmore. >>

I was not able to temper one on the test server:

    You gesture at a claidhmore.
A muted glow instantly surrounds the claidhmore, flickering slightly, and fades a moment later.

Assuming a claidhmore can be tempered somehow...Unless you are horribly unlucky, you should have no trouble enchanting a claidhmore.
    Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.
    >ge mir pot
You remove a mirtokh potion from in your climbing pack.
    >pour my pot on my clai
You pour your potion on the claidhmore.
The liquid bubbles slightly as it touches the surface of the claidhmore, but then merely evaporates without effect.
    That was the last drop.

<< So would it be better to just buy a magical claidh or to just have it enchanted by Premium Point instead? >>

    I use blue crystals myself.

    That's strange, given the following:

    >pour my pot on my claid
You pour your potion on the claidhmore.
    1d100: 54 + Modifiers: 280 == 334

As the liquid coats the surface of the claidhmore, a misty aura fills the air surrounding it, dancing around your fingers as you gesture over it with a soft incantation spilling from your lips. Small runic symbols flare to life at various points along the surface of the claidhmore, their blurry edges wavering in response to the cadence of your voice and the liquid in these areas absorbing quickly beneath the surface. When the last of the liquid has vanished, the symbols dissipate and the claidhmore appears faded. You scrutinize the claidhmore, notice nothing amiss, and conclude that the tempering seems to have been successful. You estimate that the claidhmore should be ready to enchant 23 to 24 hours.
    Roundtime: 20 sec.

... of course, that was followed the next day by an enchant-resetting failure:

    >prep 925
You carefully weave the Enchant Item spell into the air, trails of indigo and silver mist following the somatic components. Twisting and twining, the skeins of energy leech power from you and, as you unleash the spell, you feel droplets of moisture dripping from your fingertips...
    Your spell is ready.
    >chan claid
    You channel at a claidhmore.
You make a horribly poor attempt! Failure!

Multiple bursts of prismatic sparks blossom around the claidhmore as you begin your chant, showering you momentarily before a brilliant burst of light erupts from the claidhmore.
    Roundtime: 20 sec.
    Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

From what several people who know WAY more than I do about the new enchanting; they concluded that even a capped wizard built only for enchanting cannot overcome the penalty incurred for the weighting on a claid. Not sure, but I suspect it is a function of the cast and not the temper, since SIMU loves to hide those numbers and all.

This. They have basically said it is never meant to be PC enchanted. You might get lucky on an ensorcell, but even then it is going to be damn near impossible. You can PP or merchant enchant it but...

    Code:
    Enchanting Claidhmore (New Style Only)
    Enchant 0x to 1x = 5000
    Enchant 1x to 2x = 6000
    Enchant 2x to 3x = 7000
    Enchant 3x to 4x = 8000
    Enchant 4x to 5x = 9000
    Enchant 5x to 6x = 10000
    Enchant 6x to 7x = 11000
    Enchant 7x to 8x = 12000
    Enchant 8x to 9x = 13000
    Enchant 9x to 10x = 14000
    Wiki Page.

It's really not worth it to take even a 0x to 1x. You'd be paying out the ass for it.

On test server with 303 sorc spell ranks, 2x in all skills, and heavy enhancives a dull claid (30 pts weighted) was barely doable (just inside impossible).
    Figure the same for enchant

I tempered an old style non-weighted claidhmore (two-handed sword) but it failed on the enchant attempt. Now I have a 0x masterfully crit weighted two-handed sword.

I just had a thought, was the successful temper on the Prime server?

Perhaps the change to allow weighted items to be enchanted has not been copied to the Test server.

Yup, the successful temper was in the Prime instance.
