Pure brawling? Most are archer/brawlers.

This is mine at 65. He did ranged and brawl through level 55 then I dropped ranged.

Precap, archer/brawler combo rangers would struggle to also have the available TP for 2x hiding and at least 1x ambush. I think there's a really good rationale for only training in brawling to maximize on a strength of UAC.
My ranger was trained like a traditional ambusher when I had some HCP gloves. 2x brawling, 0.5x TWC, 1x cman, 1x dodge, 1-2x ambush, 1x hide, 1-2x PF, 1x spell research. My hunting style was similar to http://forum.gsplayers.com/showthread.php?73741-UAC-rogue], with the added use of spells like tangleweed or spikethorn if there were more than one of them.
Like all hiding ambush builds, you had to be selective about what you hunted. Undead was generally no good because of how good they are at sniffing out hidden adventurers, and it also wasn't great at Sunfist camps unless I was cheating with a bard to use Song of Tonis. When all the stars aligned though, there's nothing as satisfying as one-shot killing like-leveled opponents.

As a brawler can you sustain a high enough self casting DS?
I believe so. It doesn't seem a problem though my character doesn't go to the bank without at least a full wizard spell up.
Today I was looking at TP's to convert back to a sniping build and realized how much extra you gain with brawling. That may be a consideration for the OP to look at.
