Thread: Did Trump Say It or Not?

Exclamation Did Trump Say It or Not?

You've all heard by now that Trump is alleged to have called certain countries sh*****es in a meeting with several Senators and staffers. The Washington Post reported last night that "several people" at the meeting said Trump made the remarks.

It probably would not matter, except that this morning Trump tweeted a denial.

After Trump tweeted a denial, Senator Durbin, who was the only elected Democrat at the meeting, said Trump did make the remarks.

In response to Durbin, Senators Cotton and Perdue say they just can't remember whether or not Trump said it.

Sens. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and David Perdue (R-Ga.) issued a joint statement saying they did not recall the president making the exact comments and called out Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) for confirming the comments.

"In regards to Senator Durbin’s accusation, we do not recall the President saying these comments specifically but what he did call out was the imbalance in our current immigration system, which does not protect American workers and our national interest," the senators wrote.

Who else was in attendance? In addition to the three Senators listed above, I believe there were four other Senators in attendance, including Lindsey Graham, who everybody knows can't keep a secret. In fact, Senator Scott, who was not at the meeting, has already reported that Graham told him that Trump said it.
There are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen.

Any time a politician says they don't recall you know they're full of shit.

It doesn't matter if he said it or not, or if he lied about saying it. Either way, it changes nothing.

Because what he says and does when it comes to shit like this has no real bearing on anything. He's an asshole. Everyone knows it. He's not going to get impeached over some dumb shit like this, so what's the point of focusing on it? Asshole president says asshole thing. Expect similar headlines for the next 3 to 7 years.

Normalizing this kind of thing is a bad idea. I agree that ultimately it changes nothing, but he should still be called out for his behavior.

So exist in a perpetual state of outrage for the course of the Trump Presidency? That doesn't sound at all productive.

It's up to you if you want to be outraged or not. Reporting on Trump's constant juvenile behavior isn't the height of journalism, but I think pretending it's not happening is worse than simply not being "productive".

There's nothing wrong with reporting what the president does. I just don't see the point in the did he/didn't he speculation. What difference does it make if he called those countries shitholes, or just something really similar to shitholes?
