As mentioned in another thread here (I think related to EG), the impetus for pushing up revenue streams is an earnout to Simu's previous ownership based on 2017 revenue.
We also need to note that Simu is now owned by a Swedish corporation that publishes public results. (I assume that's because it's a public company, but I don't know Swedish rules on that.) Profit is going to matter even more than it did before.
This is also the first event to happen after the Simucoin bonuses for subscribers went into effect. I think it's going to be an interesting question as to how much increased revenue they'll get this time around.
As I posted on the officials:
I consider myself a pretty reasonable person and generally support businesses but this is just f'ing disgusting. These are insane prices. When I can reasonably see myself playing this game for the rest of my life and never coming to this level of in game currency over that timeframe to afford it (not just the 1-2 weeks this event works), well you've gone off the deep end.
What the hell are they smoking to think these prices are a good idea. I was saving up and looking forward to DR but this is almost enough to make me quit in disgust.
There are people who are fucked up levels of rich (maybe a billionaire plays?.. although doubtful since a billionaire would just buy this two bit lemonade stand if he's so into the game), and Simu wants to shake these people down. This is the only way it makes sense. The only.
The thing is I don't play this game for some stupid numbers "ooooooo ahhhh" shit. I'm old and people at this age want experiences not game toys, GS is the perfect platform for giving you experiences like a deep, multi-layered story, encompassing hundreds of people.
But, alas, to make something like that takes way too much developer input (aka human resources) so lets turn the game into a slot machine casino with 10x Excaliburs instead of the little jackpot cherries. If you can't see what's happening, you truly are retarded.
The prices depress me. Not because they're high, but because I have to work harder for it than other classes. I'm a paladin, so luck of the draw on insta crits to the face and critter selection drive my BS numbers. I can run some perfect, some not so much. Then I see a sorc in there who fears every critter out of the room and is done in mere seconds. As I sit there depressed at the imbalance that Duskruin is, I compare my time to the "obtainableness" of enough BS to get something decent.
Then the prices like this come out and I realize that, because I'm a paladin, my chances of maximizing BS compared to that of a Sorc are less than ideal, coupled with the high BS prices make it so I'm less inclined to attend the event at all.
