The White House releases a statement from his ex-boss Orrin Hatch: "It's incredibly discouraging to see such a vile attack on such a decent man. Shame on any publication that would print this."

Turns out the White House collected that first statement (and others like it) Tuesday, before the release of the detailed allegations.
When the allegations were published, including a photo of the first wife with a black eye and multiple corroborations, they didn't bother to check with the Senator if he had anything different to say.
Turns out he did!
Go figure!
