Cause unenchanted steel isn’t magic? No idea.

Breakage isn't a thing. Steel is great to forge with. It's cheap and quick. Pretty easy to enchant. You can alter out the steel in the description.

The clerk says, "Hrrrm, Mogonis, you do seem to be eligible for full citizenship. Just WRITE your name in the book if you wish to make it official."
>write book
You sign your name into the citizenship registration book, fully agreeing to the duties and privileges full citizenship provides you.
Steel is the cubit zirconia of the forging world.
You had better pay your guild dues before you forget. You are 113 months behind.
I tend to prefer steel anyway. Most of the typical "elven" metals never really appealed to me outside of a scant few decorative touches. I don't want a cherry red greatsword or a suit of shining gold-hued armor. Bleh.
