There used to be different levels of Water Survival qualifications in the Marines, there still are but they changed shit around. 3rd Class, 2nd Class, 1st Class, and Q. I was Q. Very few people were Q. Most people stopped at 1st Class.

I was one of the geniuses that brought empty canteens on my belt to help out with treading water. I buttoned them in but of course one got free and I was busted.

When I was doing Q, you have to tread water for 40 minutes, after 5 you have to take off your boots and retain them. I had the new MCCU Boots. They float. It was great.

We had to tread water for like 10 minutes before we could train in the helo dunker. But they made us do it in a flight suit with flight helmet buckled on. I just sank until the buoyant helmet kept my head above water and chillaxed.

It was surprising but 50% of the platoon couldn't do it.
