From what I've read, they plan to make it an F2P with Single Player elements for those not interested in it. Right now there's an AI mode and such that's pretty good. Though nothing really beats warping in beside a sniper and using broadside plasma cannons.

Just started a character yesterday and it's fucking amazing. I had forgotten just how difficult it was back when the game first started. If you never had the chance to play in vanilla this is your chance.
I have had no lag problems, the server seems really stable and have had no problems finding people to group up with. Good shit.
