Its sad that people give you shit for recommending plate. Plate is amazing like you say, the TD and flat out survivability is so worthwhile. If you can get your hands on VHDP then it's almost a joke....

I got a sorcerer AS to 445 with a bow. Did really well, sniped griffins, initiates, scouts and heralds in one shot and hid okay too. Especially if hiding before encountering critters. Only used...
