The rationale for why, only that poster can address. My guess is he was a ranger of those times; druid rangers wearing double leathers didn't come into vogue until after the ranger spell review....

If proposed changes go through for bards, I could see melee-focused builds rocking hauberk. At 6% hinderance, that's notably better than ranger hinderance in hauberk.
