I know what person you were referring to. What I would like sources for is her being hailed as some kind of hero, because the last I heard she was widely criticized, lost her job, and was doing interviews saying that she was on welfare because nobody would hire her.
The NAACP defended her and her actions. She resigned from the NAACP amid the controversies.
She also has done a lot of interviews and shit and been offered jobs in reality TV shows.
She was mostly criticized by the right, the same people not giving as fuck about a Native American dressing up as a Native American. It wasn't until the narrative put forth of "OMG! She stole jobs from REAL black people!" that the shit started to hit the fan for her.
