Akin to the Nilandia thread for movies, let's hear what shows everyone has been watching.
I'll start the thread off with the show One Man Army. It is slightly over the top, but still very entertaining.
Shameless. It's a pretty good show about growing up poor on the south side of Chicago. You can watch it On Demand if you have Showtime. Season two is coming out after the new year.
Also, AMCs new show Hell on Wheels is phenomenal. It's set in the Reconstruction period out on the western frontier where they are building rail roads. I don't want to give too much away, but it's worth the watch.
Also, obligatory Dexter and Homeland. Unfortunately, I'm out of town and don't have access to Showtime right now so I can't watch either. I know what I'm doing as soon as I get home though.
Person of Interest has been pretty good.
-Richard.
House is always good fun.
Walking Dead has been great so far
and a second to Hell on Wheels, nearly as fun as Deadwood was
and Dexter is still great as well
Shameless, Walking Dead, Terranova, Hell on Wheels, House, and Sons of Anarchy. Ive slowly been losing interstate in WD, this second season has been far too dull, enough with this damn missing girl already.
^^^
Homeland, American Horror Story, and Grimm are the 3 new ones that I really like and I'm loving that Beavis & Butthead are back on the air, otherwise same ole same ole - Psych, SoA, Boardwalk Empire, Dexter (I will be honest in that I totally didn't see this week's twist coming), House, Bones, Leverage, The Closer, the CSIs - very surprised that I like Ted Danson in Vegas.
And of course, waiting for JS to come back, hopefully in January. :D
Yeah it's all on right now (or was before the holiday).
Storage Wars. Sons of Guns. Top Shot.
The first half-hour of the first episode and the last half-hour of the last episode of Walking Dead were awesome. I like a slow burn as much as anyone, but there's a difference between gradual tension and sitting around whining.
Person of Interest is outstanding. I'm nervous they're going to add another major character and ruin it, but so far so good.
Mentalist is still mentalisty.
Durarara is fascinating. I can't think of any anime that's remotely like it.
TerraNova bored the fuck out of me. Plus the characters were laughable.
I won't be watching any of that again. On a good note, Walking Dead just goes from strength to strength.
I haven't seen the episode yet, but I'm going to guess that this is where they finally spell out that Gellar is Travis' dark passenger, which is fairly obvious.Quote:
Dexter (I will be honest in that I totally didn't see this week's twist coming)
If by last episode, you mean this past Sunday, yes. Fairly sure he didn't beforehand, and I was looking out for it.
My current favorites are Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Daily Show, Stephen Colbert, Community (sad to see it discontinued), Workahollics, Hoda & Kathi Lee at 3am is fairly entertaining, BBC America for STNG, F Word, Kitchen Nightmares, Top Gear and Dr. Who on weekdays...
SNL every Saturday night of course.
Grey's Anatomy when I'm doing homework or work from home. Like right now! I'm halfway through season 5. I get a deep sense of panic inside my chest when I think about finishing all the seasons. What am I going to do when I dont have fake doctors squabbling in the background to help me focus?
I just watched an episode of American Horror Story, and I think it's good. Mostly I was wondering why everyone was sleeping with each other, trying to sleep with each other, or murdering each other, and also apparently it's a Christianity show? Oh and also apparently 50%+ of the characters are dead/ghosts...? But I'm pretty sure it's a good show.
So the ghosts are killing each other?
The ghosts aren't killing each other. They're killing living people. Derp.
Everyone's a ghost except you Latrin. Just ghosting it up.
Dexter took a turn for the bizarre on Sunday, what with Debra's dream. LOL.
Boardwalk Empire just finished one of the best seasons of television ever.
Between Boardwalk Empire and Homeland, the emmies are going to be a have to start giving out ties.
Spartacus on Starz. Totally terrible and awesome.
So, Dexter ended last night. WUT.
UMADBRO?
Lost Girl on SyFy is actually fairly entertaining in both intellectual and trashy ways. I like the side-kick better than the main character.
Sherlock BBC version (first series is on netflix) good stuff.
This filler season of Bleach isn't all that bad, actually.
Word to the wise... do not watch Late Night with Jimmy Fallon with cracked ribs. Did that in December and about died. So okay, love his show.
Lost Girl is proving to be interesting, although like Back, I like the sidekick better.
Don't overload on me, but I actually like Once Upon a Time for the sheer "I don't have to think about anything" storylines.
Dr. Who when it comes back on. LOVE LOVE LOVE.
New Girl for the same vapid reasons as OUAT.
Archer. God help me, but I love Archer.
Always a TBBT fan. More than any show atm.
Must say I abhor The Walking Dead. Just sayin'.
Dr. Who and Archer yes, Fallon...no.
Spartacus
Game of Thrones
Sons of Anarchy
Walking Dead
Edit:
O and Dexter. Cliffhangzored.
Regular Show.

Watching the first season of boardwalk empire again. Television bliss I tell you
The Espada lead by Eisen or however you spell it invaded the world of the living to make the key which will allow them to fight heaven so that they can blah blah blah. The Head Captain JUST had to step in to save one of his guys, saying how embarrasing it was that his soldiers sucked so badly he had to intervene.
They went from a cliffhanger ending where he was getting all powered up Dragonball Z style to a BRAND new storyline, having nothing to do with that fight, where everyone's Zonpocto was physically manifesting themselves and can hunting down their owners. It was a huge, huge disconnect, but that's common for anime when the show catches up to the manga. Hence, filler storylines to give the manga time to get back ahead.
Steins;Gate.
It's about a mad scientist and his friends who turn their microwave into a time machine.
Awake and Missing are both going pretty well.
Awake, it's surprisingly easy to keep everything straight, and the bad guy from the Patriot / the guy from Event Horizon who I always think is the other guy from Event Horizon is credible so far.
A kind of glaring flaw in Missing is that they cast Sean Bean to be a spy who definitely gets killed early on and is definitely not going to turn out to be the traitor orchestrating all the bad stuff. Of all people! I at least hope they don't give him a dopey scar this time.
Key & Peele. Hilarious!!!

Awesome season finale of Justified wrapped up a great season in general. Love that show.
***SPOILER ALERT FOR THOSE OF YOU TOO STUPID TO REALIZE A THREAD DEVOTED TO SHOWS YOU HAVEN'T YET SEEN MIGHT, JUST MIGHT GIVE SHIT AWAY****
Somebody needs to pop Arlo with a .38 right in the fucking temple. Hate that dude.
And I'm very confused about what the deal was with Limehouse's sidekick. The one who likes pig tongue. Why'd he give him his walking papers?
Quarles reaching for his own arm and Raylan keeping it away was pretty damn funny. And I'm glad they didn't kill off Wynn Duffy. That guy owns every scene he is in.
All in all, a great finale.
Freaks and Geeks.
Errol told that one guy to rob Boyd's oxy place, making like Quarles did it. Limehouse figured this would lead to angry honkies running around in Noble's Hollooowww, so he was mad, but instead of doing that hand burning thing or other violence right away he kept Errol on the front lines "of the war you started" or something like that. That's why he mentioned Boyd arrested, Quarles running: the war was over (WRONG).Chekhov's meat cleaver, baby! Took him long enough.Quote:
Quarles reaching for his own arm and Raylan keeping it away was pretty damn funny.
I thought Ava's "I'm gonna punch prostitutes now" move was abrupt and inexplicable, but other than that I liked the finale a lot. I think if I was Winona's actress I'd be a little annoyed that my role has devolved into walking around being sexy and listening to Raylan, though.
I have to agree. It's almost like the writers weren't sure what to do with the character for the finale. Maybe they thought letting her pop a poor whore in the nose would make her a more believable Madam for the next season.
I like the character but I don't really miss her when she isn't on screen. Adequate actress but that's all.Quote:

I hope Adam Arkin makes more appearances. I read somewhere that he directed a few episodes of Justified, but I just love him in front of the camera for some reason.
Just finished watching both seasons of The Walking Dead.
Best show since The Sopranos, imo.
If you disagree, then fuck you.
I thought she really helped flesh Raylan out. All his other romantic relationships are pretty much banging and quips. Even his platonic friendships have low emotional content, and obviously his remaining familial relationship is right out. I mean, why else have him talk about how Arlo thought he was shooting Raylan to Winona? Art as the surrogate father is the only other plausible option, and even that relationship isn't terribly touchy feely. You know? When I watch Justified I expect discussions about emotions.
Yeah, the second season seemed like it was gonna pwn the whole way through, then it was kinda meh for a few episodes, then they made up for it with extra pwnage and some weird samurai looking person with a pair of armless zombies on a leash near the end.
AND NOW I GOTTA WAIT UNTIL FALL TO FIND OUT WTF!!!!!!!1111 :( :( :( :(
SHAHS OF SUNSET AND MOB WIVES!!!
They're soooooooo bad but soooooooooooo gooooooood! They make you feel really good about yourself.

Season 2 of Sherlock on the BBC. Amazing fantastic show. 10/10 would watch again.
I just started watching Community on Hulu. Really funny!
You....just started watching Community?
I almost hate you for this. Community is amazing.
Olivia doesn't have a reflection aaaaaaaaah!!!!!!!!
If you haven't been watching Awake, it's really good and airs on Thursdays, unfortunately at the same time as the Mentalist, but CBS is in repeats again this week, so go get some! :)
Seriously, Awake. Best show since the BSG remake.
I just made a weepy post on another forum, I will go through a millions Kleenex if you disapprove of something I like. JUST SO YOU KNOW.
I disapproved of the implied criticism of BSG but on rereading your post I see that you were not indeed saying BSG was worse than Awake.
I forgive you and regret the passing impulse to call you things like "sock boy", etc.
That was close. I'm so happy I am going to go cry for awhile.
You know, MTV is often about as desireable as a turd burrito these days, but they sure do a good job of jumping on the bandwagon to tribute a musician's death. Gotta give em props for the Beatstie Boyz they're rockin.
RIP MCA
I'm gonna say it: I really like The Big C.
Laura Linney is great. And she's totally fucked up in the head in this series.
I watched Swamp People tonight for the first time ever. I was disappointed. I expected more than country people talking funny and killing crap. I could have just went to the range for that. That's 1 hour of my life that I'll never get back.
There has never, there is not and there will never be time travel because all probabilities exist simultaneously right now. Did I just ruin your day? I'm not sorry. Physicists are terrorists and people need to know.
Oh wow, I'm that far behind? lol
yeah, the seasons are short though, like 13 episodes. 13 episodes of a 22 minute show goes by hilariously quickly. And it's only 4 episodes into s3, it just started.
Yeah I know, just like every other season of every other premium channel show. So annoying.
Has anyone been watching Girls on HBO?
There's still like 4 more episodes in the season but so far I really like it. Lena Dunham's writing makes it like the perfect mix of painfully awkward, funny, and touching.
Also holy hell am I skeeved out by Hannah's boyfriend or whatever the fuck Adam is any more.
No, but I will get around to watching it on HBO on demand eventually. I've seen a few clips that were pretty funny.
Have to admit, even though some of the architecture they presented was a little off, The History Channel did a miniseries called Hatfields and McCoys, and I really liked it. The dialogue was better than what I have seen lately on cable TV, AND for once, Kevin Costner made me forget who he was for most of it. Bill Paxton was an awesome McCoy.
I love Bill Paxton in anything he does. I totally forgot this was on though and missed it. I hope it's available On Demand.
Every time I hear his name, I always think the same thing. "Game over man, Game over!"

Yeah, Bill Paxton was hot in Aliens even when he was whining like a titty baby.

Space in your face!
So I finally got around to watching the last episode of The Killing on Comcast On Demand and am I the only one bothered by the really negative, sustained way that the fictional Wapi indian tribe has been portrayed throughout the series? All the native characters are gangsters, thugs, and murderers. This last episode the Indian chief who is also the casino manager (my eyes won't stop rolling) slammed a door on her own subordinates hand.
Maybe it's because I've had some personal dealings with the management at the Tulalip Casino on their indian reservation and their highly professional staff, that I find the portrayal of Pacific NW indians in the series as stupid, unimaginative, and inaccurate.
I'm still looking forward to the season finale though. I think the killer is going to turn out to be Jamie.
It doesn't bother me, no, because they are as you said, a fictional tribe. I don't see it as a real portrayal of any group - just a bunch of bad guys for a TV show. You're probably right about Jamie, although I hope it's Gwen. She annoys the piss out of me.
Anybody watching MasterChef or am I the only dork addicted to watching food competitions?
I was literally cackling at the screen when Chef Ramsay made Ryan go try Christine's dish. You could tell when he was picking who got canned and who got live that they (the Judges) all thought he was being an immense dick to give her the live crab. Talk about a karmic ending- the girl he wanted to go home won and his butt buddy he was trying to prop up got shit canned. Awesome.
My wife watches all of those so by default I end up listening to and watching parts of them. The dude in the suit with the sneakers needs his dick stomped, as does any fuck ass that wears a suit with sneakers/sandals. I liked the episode where he was trying to use his I'm a pompous douche trying to be hard stare down tactic on the BLIND chick....how'd that work out for you?
A suit with sneakers is pretty trendy in Europe but sandals? I don't think guys should wear sandals. Ever.
Fuck trendy. This is what is wrong with the kids today....
I'm going to be such an awesome cranky old man I can't wait.
Just because I shake my fist at cars driving by doesn't mean anything until I do it in short shorts while wearing black socks and mandals.
Deadman Wonderland on Adult Swim is awesome. I also enjoyed the season premiere of Falling Skies and am looking forward to the second season of Wilfred June 30th. I've also been catching up on Legend of Korra, which is the sequel to The Last Airbender. I like it a lot but if you didn't like the first show I wouldn't bother.
PS
NEW Futurama on tonight!!
My favorite heels are sandals. :(I'm on the fence. The kid's voice actor is a little one note. Between Monkey and the warden, I think Motoko's voice actress has been type cast as large-breasted, which is... it's a little weird. It's also straying a little into bad comic book territory with the whole "there is a huge thing we all know about but you the viewer don't neener neener", even with the kid acting as our simulacrum.Quote:

I like the new "Dallas"
What happened to Jordana Brewster? That woman was hot as shit. Did she just lose too much weight? Her face looks so weird.. skeletal or something (or did, for the 5 minutes I happened to see of that show a week or two ago).

The Newsroom.
Wilfred. Can't wait for the new season coming out tomorrow.
The second season of Wilfred started last week, dude.
LOVE this show.
The last episode kind of pissed me off, but in all fairness, last episodes tend to do that. Mainly because they are last episodes.
I wasn't sure about Adam at first but ended up liking him immensely. Charlie is a complete tool and reminds me of several of my ex-boyfriends.
Sooooo glad to hear they are renewing this series! :socool:

I've already watched the first episode, but admittedly not on TV.
Watched some of that last night. Had a good pace. Great dialogue. Just seemed a little self-aggrandizing. If the characters flesh out it should be pretty good in the long run.
Is it just going to be canceled like Studio 60 (which I really liked) because it doesn't get the ratings people want, or is it just gonna be super awesome cause it's on HBO?
SUPER AWESOME

Does anyone listen to the podcast? Formerly known as Comedy Death-Ray Radio. It's awesome too!
I fucking love Sam Waterston.
Episode #2 for Newsroom ... it wasn't obvious before (to me, as I was still trying to piece together what to expect from #1), but the centerpiece guy is meant to be a conservative news anchor.
Yet a lot of staff are clearly liberals ... and very opinionated ones.
(wtf with that girl who hid under the bed ... is she supposed to be the stereotypical blonde of the show?)
Best part was when Will was talking to the three 'fall-back' interview candidates ... it reminded me very much of the political discourse on this forum, heh.
Just watched the second ep, good shit.
"The Newsroom" episode last night = Winner!!
I loved Will's 'interaction' with all 3 ladies that put him in hot water.
Okay, so I may or may not have watched all 4 of the first 4 episodes in the previous two nights. Great stuff. At the end of this last one when he said the guy could punch him in the face, I almost died.
Yeah, definitely my favorite show on TV right now. The episodes just keep getting better and better.
You know what's weird? And by weird, I mean kinda conspiracy-y?
Most of the mass media outlets are panning it, saying it's smug and inert and sanctimonious. The NYT, Time magazine, ABC News's Jack Tapper, even MSNBC disliked it. But everyone in my office has been raving about it for weeks, and I don't know any individual who has actually disliked it.
Of course that's what they're going to say, the show is basically calling out the media as jackasses and liars out to fulfill their own twisted agenda.
Pretty much. And unfortunately that's not fiction.
Only thing that I don't like about the show is Maggie. I can't stand her, from her stupid looking round face to the idiotic way she acts. The make her seem more like a girl in high school than a newsroom.
Pretty much everybody I know who's seen it has liked it. Gonna start this weekend.
Quirky girls need loving too.
Edit: Hmmm, I appear to have been totally wrong about what the actress who played Maggie was in previously. I will edit this post to not reveal my dark, dark secrets.
P.S. Who has a NYE party at work?!?
People who are working at that hour?
Diversion complete.
I just finished Shameless and enjoyed it. There was a surprising amount of boobies for you pervs
I really hope it was a soap opera.
I'd bone her.
The Community episode where they meta one of the popular cops shows over a dead yam was on tonight. Brilliant.
Speaking of cop shows I like Bones. No like rabidly but enough that I'll watch from time to time.
This last season of Bones kinda sucked. Didn't even finish it. Once Seely and Bones are together, what the fuck is left to watch of the show?
Tis the dilemma of all shows based on sexual tension between the leads.
E, there's a big difference between Bones and ..............
I hate you both.
The Newsroom. "We got Obama!"
Burn Notice and Suits, gotta put some USA Network love up there. Leverage is a good show too, not my favorite though.
Every time I hear his name, I always think the same thing. "Game over man, Game over!"-Bhaalizmo
Haha! he is great in that one, my husband loves that movie just for his character alone. I always hear "Nice night for a walk eh?" Still can't believe thats him.

Shows I like...Criminal Minds, CSI, Grey's Anatomy, Iron Chef America (watch a lot of Food network but Ramsey can go fuck himself), Star Trek TNG or Voyager, loved the first season of Game of Thrones but got rid of the movie channels (which included HBO) so planning on watching it on DVD when it comes out. Let's see, most of House was good..watch the reruns of Golden Girls all the time, those ladies are down right funny.
The first season of Weeds didn't have much boobs. I'm finding the 2nd and 3rd season are ramping them up though.
The more and more I watch Weeds - the more and more ridiculous it gets. It's like farcical. It's quickly turning my interest in the series off.
I mean, Nancy is a totally unbelievable character. The premise is solid - widowed suburban housewife turns to selling weed to support her family....but it's getting stupid now.
Fringe premiere Sept. 28th.
Walking Dead October.
Justified 2013.
Until then, Supernatural repeats.
Olivia
Yeah, I'm already past season 3 (in the middle of 4). Maybe I should just stop. They're in season 8 now? It's already jumping the fucking shark in season 4.Quote:
Thread: Which Good TV Shows Have You Seen Recently?
Stop watching Weeds at season 3, it's all downhill from there. Totally ridiculous storylines. -Richard
Though I can't argue with Mary-Louise Parker getting naked.
Is it weird that I watched the latest episode of The Newsroom and am excited for next week? I can't remember the last time I watched a show with anticipation from week to week, as I don't watch much current television.
Strike Back. Watched the first season of this show on demand and loved it. If you're a fan of action movies and haven't checked this series out you are in for a treat. Can't wait for the new season on Friday.
Yep, too bad that the season is apparently almost over.
I sorta wonder what material they are going to use for 'season 2' considering that they're using events from 2011 (which would seem to limit their flexibility somewhat as presumably next season = a year later 2012).
Possibly they could 'fill-up' some episodes with more background history on the characters (ie Will as a prosecutor) ... they kinda experimented with that in a prior episode this season with the therapist I thought.
I suppose that there is plenty of material from 2011-2012 for them to use, if they emphasize political stories (Romney being Mormon) and stuff like the Zimmerman and the Batman movie theater shootings.
The Newsroom! This show is perfect and I'm already having withdrawals.
I've been enjoying The Newsroom as well, and definitely am curious how they're going to keep going. When I first saw the date they were starting at I figured time would move pretty slowly in the series but that doesn't seem to be the case. Maybe soon they'll be reporting on the future!
Timeline wise they finished August 2011 and now there's a year until the next season.. They'll have plenty of material for season 2.
Apparently The Newsroom is pulling in more viewers, on average, than True Blood and Game of Thrones combined!
Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but the bits of the episodes i've watched made it seem like the show is what some would consider "left" leaning. Do any conservative minded folk follow this show?
