Never before in history has a major national political party in the US nominated a presidential candidate as old as the candidate nominated today by the Republican Party. Last stand of the Baby Boomers.
Born near the beginning of the Baby Boomer era, Trump is nearly, if not, the Oldest Boomer. Does the most elite and Oldest Boomer share the characteristics of younger members of his generation? Is he mostly concerned about himself? We'll see as the Republican Convention progresses by noting its focus.

At the risk of feeding their narcissism, I believe it's time someone stated the simple truth: The Baby Boomers are the most self-centered, self-seeking, self-interested, self-absorbed, self-indulgent, self-aggrandizing generation in American history.

Of course, it is as unfair to demonize an entire generation as it is to characterize an entire gender or race or religion. And I don't literally mean that everyone born between 1946 and 1964 is a selfish pig. But generations can have a unique character that defines them, especially the elites of a generation—those lucky few who are blessed with the money or brains or looks or skills or education that typifies an era.

At nearly every critical juncture, they have preferred the present to the future; they've put themselves ahead of their parents, ahead of their country, ahead of their children—ahead of our future.
J.D. Vance speaks tonight. Vance is descended from the Hatfield side of the Hatfield/McCoy dispute. That's like being in a violent gang.
In 2021, Vance said people without children should not be elected to public office..
Harris has two children. Buttigieg has children, though I'm not sure if he did in 2021. I have no idea about Ocasio-Cortez. If Vance had been correct about their childlessness, would and should it have mattered?Quote:
At the end of July, Senate candidate J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) introduced the newest Republican talking point, accusing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg of being “childless cat ladies.”
Since then, the same criticism has been made against many female or LGBTQ critics of former President Trump and his allies. This rhetoric is not just a catchy campaign phrase but rather the latest attempt in a long fight to define who counts as a real American or who is permitted to serve in high office.

Since the ink dried on the Constitution in 1787, Americans have contested and debated who counts as a citizen.
Quote:
During the first half of the 19th century, suffrage expanded to include all white men, regardless of their propertied status, but still excluded women and men of color. While there were growing voices calling for the end of slavery, those activists didn’t necessarily have the same concerns about citizenship. Even many abolitionists and ardent opponents of slavery remained convinced that Black Americans could not become equal citizens and supported colonization projects that would ship the newly-emancipated somewhere else.
Several decades later, advocates for women’s suffrage faced similar pushback to their demands for full citizenship.

The hair apparent.
Trump will speak at 9:09 pm central time tonight. How long will he have to wear the patch to hold his ear on? What do you think it will look like?

I don't give the first fuck about Kid Rock, but I'm 99% sure that Undertaker is showing up tonight based on his "Are you scared?" hint and referring to Trump as "an American badass president." in the same clip.
This intro to this song was only used for Undertaker back when he was doing his American Badass gimmick.
"Are you scared?" at 0:24

If Undertaker shows up tonight that's going to be beyond epic.
Hulk Hogan is gonna be there too.
Just putting this here so it's documented ahead of time for when I'm right.
sad that he didnt start off with "friends, delegates and fellow citizens, lend me your ear"
Gen-X is in power baby.

I will end the illegal immigration crisis by closing our border and finishing the wall, most of which I’ve already built.
On the wall, we were dealing with a very difficult Congress and I said, “Oh, that’s OK. We won’t go to Congress.” I call it an “invasion.” We gave our military almost $800 billion. I said, “I’m going to take a little of that money, because this is an ‘invasion.’” And we built — Most of the wall is already built, and we built it through using the funds, because what’s more, what’s better than that? We have to stop the invasion into our country that’s killing hundreds of thousands of people a year. We’re not going to let that happen.

Do voters believe that? Does Trump believe it? If you repeat a lie enough times, does it become true?
Trump fortified or improved 402 miles of existing border wall and built 52 miles of new border wall. The border is 2,000 miles. Far less than half of the border has any fencing. Trump's wall is definitely not mostly built, as the claimed, and he advanced it very little during his time in office. Mexico did not pay for any of it.
I think the media is too exhausted with Trump's lies to call them all out. Biden is not up to the task of pointing out the lies.
He probably will finish the wall and it makes sense that some of our defense budget could be used for it. The wall is not important though. What is important is to stop illegal immigration through sound policy, leadership, and the will to act on the issue. I believe Trump will secure the border because he faced that challenge of an invasion in his first term, and successfully decreased by yuge numbers illegal immigration into our country.
Speaking of lying, I find it inconsistent and disingenuous to suggest that only Trump lies. As an example, Biden repeatedly claims he inherited 9% inflation and that he brought it down to 3%. Facts are he inherited an inflation rate of 1.4% and it peaked to 9.1% in June 2022. Answer these same questions when it’s not Trump.
All politicians lie, and all politicians promise more during their election campaign than they deliver in their term. I think a good way to judge a politician is to look at the effectiveness and results of their policies. In this election we have the luxury of both candidates having a track record as President.

Wasn't it shaft who said at some point that bitcoin/crypto is his single voter issue?
His butthurt will end up being his single voter issue in November, but still
It's sad that some attendees at the convention cut off the tip of their right ears so that they could wear a bandage matching Trump's. I bet Certain People in this forum did it too.Quote:
By the following day, a small cadre of Trump’s most loyal supporters had begun sporting makeshift bandages on their right ears — in sympathy and support for Trump, several bandage-clad delegates explained.

If anybody is still talking about the Republican convention..
Interest observation in the above tweet. In his book, Vance said that Appalachians deserved the blame for their condition. In his convention speech, he said they were victims.
Untrue. In 2017, the number of apprehensions at the southern border was 304k. About 20 days in 2017 were Obama days, but for simplicity, we'll give Trump credit for those days. In 2020, the last full year of Trump's term, the number of apprehensions at the southern border was 458k. That's not a reduction.
Your claim oversimplifies the problem. In prior years, the number of "got aways" was estimated to be much higher than in recent years, because of better surveillance and intervention technology and, more importantly, because more people who cross the border illegally in recent years try to get apprehended, instead of trying to evade. Being apprehended allows them to apply for asylum. See https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/ar...eaking-records
Furthermore, the number of immigrants living in the US during Trump's term did not decrease as he promised. See https://www.pewresearch.org/short-re...e-end-of-2023/
Quote:
Immigration enforcement in the U.S. interior during the Trump administration has lagged far behind the president's 2016 electoral promises as well as the record of his predecessor, Barack Obama. In fact, the Trump administration deported only slightly more than one-third as many unauthorized immigrants from the interior during its first four fiscal years than did the Obama administration during the same timeframe.

No.
There were a number of policy reversals, but the most significant is Title 42. Forcing so-called asylum seekers to remain in Mexico while their application processed and moved through the court system kept them from crossing our border & also was a successful deterrent to illegal immigration.
