Vaccine + mask = the heck is wrong with you?

If you're fully vaccinated the chances of you contracting the virus and passing it onto someone else is almost zero. This shows to me that if someone is still wearing a mask when they aren't required to that they are too selfish to get the vaccine and protect the people around them.

That's how this works right? When do the screeching harpies start getting in masked people's faces and telling them they are selfish for not getting vaccinated? When do they start calling masked people anti-vaxxers?

I've been waiting for this day, the day when these people finally proved once and for all that wearing a mask was nothing but virtue signaling bullshit. Such easy virtue signaling bullshit too, it requires very little time (the time to put on a mask) and very little money (literally the price of a mask, or just reuse the same one-time use mask you got for free from Costco 3+ months ago), and they think they are now morally superior to others, of course they don't want this easy and cheap virtue signaling to go away now. I do it because I'd like to avoid getting regular sick and also because it limits or removes unnecessary small talk (I live in a rural area with very few masks). Between my man bun (could I be anymore this demographic), rainbow colored ASICS and tie-dye face mask I am virtually unapproachable to joe farmer out my way and it makes shopping seamless.

I am pro "do what you want" in regards to getting a vaccine and I was curious about this article because it sounded unsettling. This (the polio vaccine) was a long time ago in terms of medical advancement compared to now. I looked at the article though and it reads as though the contamination was inconclusive to show any significant increased risks. There last line (which I bolded) is important though and speaks to what you addressed

I already had COVID so I consider myself vaccinated anyways. They actually have home test kits for COVID now and another company is coming out with a pill specifically to treat COVID. Early data (CDC website) shows that the vaccine may help reduce the spread / infection from someone with no covid symptoms. Logical, since no symptoms means the infected person isn't coughing and sneezing which limits aerosolizing the virus for others to breathe in. Also logical, but not proven, if a person is symptomatic (coughing and sneezing), then the vaccine is not likely to prevent the spreading of the virus. Studies continue.

At this point I am of the mindset of 'you do you and I'll do me'. I'm vaccinated and happy to ditch the mask. But if I become symptomatic for some reason, I'll put the mask back on in public for a couple weeks. Responsibility goes in all directions.

I may not agree with much of anything most of the conservatives here say but I fully agree. The whole thing is mind boggling. I'm seriously the only one of my liberal leaning friends/family members that are completely fine with throwing my mask in the trash now that I'm fully vaccinated. Mask usage hasn't gone up yet cases are down to 1/10th of what they were at the peak 5 months ago, vaccines are to thank not masks. The vaccines work great hence why the CDC felt comfortable adjusting their guidelines. At the end of the day though I think people have gotten use to wearing them and found them as a security blanket. They absolutely help slow down transmission but they aren't anywhere near as effective as any of the vaccines, even the slum J&J vaccine. They were just the best we had to try to continue living life and slowing the spread. I think it'll take a month or two for people to start letting them go.

But I do know two people that were hospitalized from covid that both were fully vaccinated from J&J (husband and wife, also very old) so I'm not sure how accurate the 100% in preventing hospitalizations is. Businesses requires masks, that's why I still wear mine. There are still people that can't get the vaccine and there are still people who refuse to get the vaccine. We literally have a resident dbag here that's proud he won't get the shot and we are all just sheeple. Herd immunity doesn't happen until like 70+% I think, so we are close but not quite there last I checked.

I just looked it up again, apparently it has been 100% effective at preventing hospitalizations and deaths 28 days after receiving the vaccine, so I guess the vaccine keeps building up your immune system or whatever for several weeks after receiving the shot. I got the vaccine about 2 months ago so I should be good, especially if almost half the people in the US have already received at least one dose.

Many businesses still can't operate, or operate at full capacity, because they people are demanding social distancing, which not only isn't necessary anymore but there have been studies done showing social distancing does almost nothing in preventing the spread of viruses such as COVID, ESPECIALLY in an outdoor setting. While I'll agree social distancing doesn't do much of anything, I think masks still serve a purpose. There are still a bunch of people dying from covid everyday. So, I don't really care if places require masks for a while longer. It's hardly an inconvenience and I'm fine to do this super minor thing if it saves a life somewhere.

What does it matter if people choose not to get the vaccine though? Between the people who have already gotten it, the people who had Covid and the people who were exposed to covid and their bodies already have the antibodies.. we're past that 70% imaginary threshold now anyway.

If there are people out there that can't get the vaccine due to medical reasons, they should remain at home, especially if they are in the high risk category.

We shouldn't keep mandates out there for everyone to wear a mask because of a few individuals. Everyone needs to be responsible for themselves.

So anyways, back to the masks. I also think there's obviously something physical about it, hence my security blanket statement before. You feel a mask protecting you, you don't feel the vaccine after the initial shot. It's not like I feel some armored protection coursing through my veins or anything. I guarantee if you could FEEL it working, people would be able to break through the mental barrier quicker. In fairness, I think a lot of people are traumatized from the whole thing and letting their guard down just doesn't feel natural. Maybe they lost loved ones or know someone that got long Covid or lost their sense of taste/smell for months and that extra bit of the protection the mask provides in their mind helps cover the final % chance of getting it that the vaccine doesn't.

I don't really mind anyone that wants to wear it for personal reasons but it's kind of crazy how the majority of people I know are are ignoring the science for why the CDC was comfortable in issuing new guidelines. I made the mistake of asking my local post office if they're keeping mask requirements in their, I figured maybe because it was a government building they'd be forced to keep on longer. Anyways, I got an earful of how the CDC doesn't know what they're talking about and the post lady knows someone that got Covid after being vaccinated. She said they'd consider removing the mask requirement at the end of summer. We had 12 new cases yesterday in our county of 386,000. It's probably going to be 0 within 2 weeks.

Either way, I'm going to be fascinated watching the tide turn the other way. It was so weird when I first wore my mask out shopping when this whole thing started and again it was weird today going maskless inside a store for the first time in over a year. I'd say 80% were still wearing masks but I was happy to see I wasn't the only one not. No one gave me any looks or ran away from me. It was rather nice, I've been smiling all morning.

It for sure feels freeing being able to walk around a store without having to wear a mask, I feel like a human again. In the beginning of this mess I didn’t go out much because, well, virus, but the past few months, even after being vaccinated, I just didn’t feel like going out anyways. Nothing is really the same with being forced to wear a mask and everyone is social distancing and everything is closed down. Now I feel like a person again and I can just get in my car and go somewhere and not have to worry about these rules.

Restaurants are even opening up their fountain drinks for customers again. That was a big deal to me because I have gotten to a point where soda is like a treat for me (I used to drink it everyday) and I looked forward to my days of going to the store and getting my own fountain drink, it’s just not the same when someone just hands it to you and you can’t taste it and refill it yourself.

It is funny that the same people who told everyone to follow the science are now the same ones telling people the scientists don’t know what they are talking about, but we all saw that coming, they have been doing this for decades now, using science to push their agenda then telling scientists to take a hike when they are no longer useful.

That is weird that your post office worker seems to think she can make the rules regarding masks. From what I understand all post offices should no longer require masks because they are a federal building and someone much higher than the worker at the post office makes these kinds of decisions.

My wife finally doesn't need to wear a mask anymore. She said it felt weird, but is glad the mandate fell before summer. Exactly one person has complained about them no longer wearing masks.

To be fair I'm not sure if these things were government enforced or the restaurants/companies in my area took it upon themselves to enact these measures. But yeah, I was actually excited and surprised a couple of months ago when McDonald's reopened their self-serve fountain drinks, then within a month it seems like every place had reopened their self-serve fountain drinks. To my knowledge all buffets are still closed in my area, even at casinos. It feels like not much has changed since this all started in my area, up until very recently when the CDC updated their mask recommendation for vaccinated people, now things finally seem to be going back to normal, although restaurants and bars in my area still have massive restrictions and most stores that used to be open 24/7 are still closing between 9-11PM, again I'm not sure if that's a government mandated thing or the stores just decided to do that themselves and keep those measures in place.

Even if these measures aren't government mandated I can almost guarantee there is pressure to enforce these measures in my area, either by local/state government or customers.

Our fountain drinks never closed down per say. All the fast food dining areas and places you'd generally come into contact with them did.
