Thread for Things That Made You Frown Today

I ended up getting my reports out, but I couldn't take my computer home for the weekend. No one was allowed to. This stupid virus fucked everyone up... at least everyone in my department who had shit to do. They said that Facebook seemed to be the main source. Herp derp!

My boss told me not to come into the office today, that I would get assistance on Monday to do my sales if I needed it... but I think I'm going to go in tomorrow anyway. I seriously have a ton of shit to do and I want it done done and done before I leave Tuesday night, because I'll be out Wed-Fri cause of my surgery. I will be taking my laptop home, but who knows what I'll be able to do while I'm on pain meds.

Also, whoever that was with the TPS reports... lolol <3 <3

The frowns were yesterday and Friday, but I'm just now catching up..

My mother-in-law, in her infinite wisdom on Friday, sent me and only me a TEXT MESSAGE at 6pm on Friday asking me to "come by the ER at St. Mary's and pick [her] up on [my] way home".
First of all.. had I left work at my normal time on Friday, or even early like I normally can on Fridays, I would have been home or nearly home, so wouldn't have seen the text message because I would have been eating dinner and helping my kids with dinner and then putting them to bed.. and then would have been cranky because this hospital is not near where we currently live.
Second of all.. as it happened, Friday was a total Piece-of-Shit day, so instead of going home at 6, I was emailing the hubby to tell him that I lied about leaving by 6 and was instead still working my ass off to try to finish a project that needs to get done before Payroll runs on Monday (I don't have access to my office over the weekend, and I needed to be helping him pack up our apartment this weekend so we can move next weekend), so when the text came in, I ignored it, didn't even read it until I was at a stoplight 45 minutes later. This particular hospital is also nowhere near to being even a slight detour between my office and my current apartment; it's a total out-of-the-way trip to get over there, then take her home, and then get myself home.
When I called hubby about this, he had no clue that his mother was in the ER. As far as we know, the one of his 3 brothers that also lives in our area was never contacted, it's like their mom seems to forget she has another son. Whose wife doesn't work a minimum of 40 hours a week (usually I'm pulling a little more, not counting my commute time), or do they have kids yet.

This was driven home yesterday by the fact that hubby was the one who got the call, while trying to work on packing up our apartment, to pick her up from the Walmart ON THE BUS LINE (his mother doesn't drive) to pick her up and take her home. She got there by way of the bus, I don't know why she couldn't go home by way of the bus. Or, again, why she couldn't, you know, CALL HER OTHER SON OR DAUGHTER-IN-LAW.

As bad as it sounds, a major factor in why we're looking to move out of state within the next 10 years is so we can't be an option for dealing with this crap any more and hubby's brother HAS to step up finally. There's going to be talks about this happening in the meantime anyway: our kids are really starting to take up more of our time and resources (the daughter may start kindergarten in the fall, and there's some other activities I'm looking at for the kids once we settle from the move), so there needs to be a shift in responsibility. (And we won't get into the fact that hubby has 2 more brothers that aren't doing much of ANYTHING because they're basically bums and both are living out of state right now.)

What malady led her to go to urgent care? You don't mention that at all.

Well, her mother in law is a woman, so she probably went into labor unexpectedly, as women are wont to do.

My frown today: I thought up a great joke for being accused of using too much toilet paper, but when is that ever going to come up?

I have no idea exactly why she went to the ER, it's nothing new for her, and since, you know, she didn't CALL, it couldn't have actually been that URGENT, you know?

My bets are that it was something to do with her blood pressure, again, which is something I have very little patience for because she refuses to do what she needs to to keep it in check: she doesn't take her medication regularly, she doesn't cut down on the salt (at Thanksgiving I lied and said we didn't have any salt in the house to keep her from just pouring it on everything), and otherwise doesn't eat in a way that will keep her blood pressure from elevating. If she took her medication the way she's supposed to, and didn't pour salt on everything she eats, and otherwise followed a heart-healthy diet, and CALLED when things were truly urgent instead of sending a text message that's easily overlooked.. oh, and, you know, tried contacting her son, too, when her daughter-in-law didn't respond (again, hubby would have had no idea if I hadn't called him to find out if he was at all aware).. Maybe I'd give a rat's ass.

I've been with her in the hospital at 3am (while 7 months pregnant myself, at that) while the doctor lectured her about taking her medication regularly. I see us having to put her into a home for her own safety soon enough, and I don't want to have to be in this area to deal with it, honestly. We have enough to deal with, and history is showing that hubby's brother will dump their mom's care on us unless he has a kick in the ass making him do otherwise.

I'm always horrified when older people text and use txtspk, which annoys the shit out of me even with my peers. My mother tries it every once in a while. I don't know if she's trying to communicate on what she thinks is my level or if it's to show that she's hip and with it, but I get a little twitch in my left eye every time.
