I like how "climate deniers" are anti-science hillbillies, but the left has no problem at all denying the more concrete science behind GMOs.
Like anything else, it's just science used to further a political agenda. It gets discarded at-will, just like any other tool.
False equivalence. Virtually the entire GOP caucus consists of adamant science deniers--the notable exceptions being those frequently decried as RINOs, like Susan Collins and John McCain (although he's virtually silent on the issue now due to the insane Tea Party takeover of GOP policy). 75% of Tea Party Republicans don't believe the science underlying climate change, and 40% of Republicans at large.
Democrats on the other hand, don't set their policy based on the anti-science left. You mention the groups paranoid about GMOs. What have they achieved legislatively? Even the most mild of restrictions on GMOs--like requiring them to be labeled--just got shot down in California. Only one state in the union, Vermont, requires GMOs be labeled (and that just started in May of this year). Virtually all of our food is genetically modified in some way--whatever anti-scientific viewpoint the extreme left has, hasn't had an impact on much. The right, on the other hand? They remain recalcitrant, and have successfully blocked basically any efforts to minimize emissions out of concern for almighty economic growth, as well as led massive, cynical disinformation campaigns--Parkbandit is a prime example of that success.
And on the energy issue--nuclear power isn't very popular in the US in general, right or left, especially since the Fukushima incident. Either way, though, Obama's endorsed nuclear power in both elections.
The right supports nuclear power ... just afraid to lobby for it due to the unproductive political shitstorm that would get stirred up by the brain-dead hippies.
If went all went back to Railroad style transport and rode horses we could greatly lower our carbon footprint. True story.
We could also stop flying around for meetings and just all use GO2MEETING or whatever and stop all social interaction business wise would also be a great help (IE going out to dinner ect ect).
We could also stop going to visit our families if we moved away. The holidays are packed full of non-stop flights burning thousands and thousands of gallons of fuel just to reunite people with their loved ones for one false religious bigoted moment. We could ride horses there and save thousands of snowflakes! But unfortunately if you were take a horse drawn carriage from NYC to say LA you would need about 60 days of vacation time for this to work (With a straight cut path, otherwise you are looking at 4-6 months.)
I'm sure I'll have more great ideas soon! STAY TUNED!
