Couldn't be because I was getting huge rep numbers from people with no rep when it started and no one had rep.

I think that's probably correct...however I also believe post count is a factor in the equation, unlike yourself: "I don't think the amount of rep is related to the post count."

Sure, it could be. I'll agree to that. I just haven't seen anything to suggest that it is. I hadn't really thought about it prior to the suggestion though either.
