Volume is not the same as emotion or passion, though. As she states after this particular cover, she felt the message of the song as reassurance, which is a peaceful emotion, and so she used a peaceful mood. Anybody can holler and scream when they're upset, the hard task is to hammer that into peacemaking - look at all the people commenting how emotional they are from specifically her version of the song.
And so, we agree that music is subjective, and that one facet of this is that what strikes you as connoting emotion is not necessarily what will strike other people, or what the artist herself feels. Nobody can sing when they are actually stricken by emotion, the throat swells and closes up, and that's that. We have agreed on several expressions that count as emotional, but we can agree on others just as easily.
