I can afford it. I paid for it. It doesn't mean I wouldn't like to have $300 and healthy cats though.

Sorry, this line is bullshit. You may be able to spout this crap off if you have a lovely career and don't live paycheck to paycheck, but the reality is many people simply can't afford $300 at the drop of a hat. Whether it is a car repair, fixing a problem in your house or simply paying extra shit for your pets. Extra shit for your pets is just that, extra...you don't plan for extra (you can try to save for it, good luck), not if you are living so tight that 85-90% of your check each week is slotted to go to an expense. Some people have credit cards for emergencies and some don't. I think it's unfair how so many people here act like they can afford every expense in life that arises then tell people that don't/can't that they are doing shit wrong. Guess what? We're all fucking trying. A second job isn't always the answer. For example, GR is working two jobs and is going to school...wtf do you people want, for her to whore herself out so she can afford shit?

Come up with a better mother fucking line than you don't budget well. Fuck, I have to budget or I won't meet all my bill dates and payment deadlines. I'm glad everyone is so well off that a $300 bump in the road amounts to jack shit. Next thing I expect to hear is people don't deserve the companionship of a pet if they can't afford an emergency. WTF?!

One of my work associates is getting married and she called me of all people to be her maid of honor. I actually don't know her that well...shes pretty much exactly like me, works with dudes in a dude job - except cooler because she's Nepali and knows all those regional languages- so I guess I'm the only female friend she has here. Anyhoo. I have to wear a brides maid dress in front of alot of work associates at Christmas. I'm not sure if it will be culturaly awkward or pink and scary and I can't control the situation at all. Thinking about it made me frown alot today.

Also, GR, humane society employs quality medical personel who gives all shots and yearly examinations on the cheap...not sure if you have one near you.

Another thing - it's possible to densensitize a cat from howling diva status to well trained animal. Put it in a dog crate that is big enough so it has only enough room to turn around but not stretch out. Put it in a busy area where people pass often..high traffic hall way, bathroom or kitchen. Give it food and water and do not acknowledge it until it comes out of the crate. I would try small time intervals for minimal howling. NEVER use the crate for punishment. With dogs this is called crate training. The cat needs to be reasonably intelligent to learn that when they are in the crate they are not your priority. With dumb animals covering the crate with a towel sometimes gives a hint. This is how I crate trained my cat and dog and animals I find on the street until I can find a no kill shelter who will take them.

I'll have to look into the humane society to see if there is one around. My cats are old, one is 18 and the other is 13 so I'm not really sure that they'll take to any training I try to do.

I feel pretty bad though, I'm moving into a sublet until my apartment is ready, can't take them for 3 weeks so they're gonna be here alone, and my dad hates the cats so he wont play with them or anything. :(

Trained my cat to be nice to dogs this year. He's 9. But damn, yeah 18 is old. I would feel guilty talking even sternly to that old cat.

Yeah, 18 is real old. We had one about to turn 19 pass away a couple years ago. We use the blanket over the crate technique with our young dog. He enjoys it for the most part and the time in the crate each day helps to calm him down some.

Yeah I feel bad when I get annoyed with her. She's kicking it though, the vet said that Ember (the younger cat) looked worse than Kaz (the old cat), because Ember lost her front teeth =/
