Would it really matter if everyone was given money? Most people would just fuck it up and waste it. I'm not sure what the $700 that Nevergain mentioned, but it's nothing that I'm aware of.
MN had an opportunity to give back a lot to families with the big tax surplus they have, but the democratic side decided not to give back as much as the republican side wanted.
Going from memory here....
$3bil tax surplus was to be given back, this comes out to be roughly $2500 per family (initially suggested by republican). It was $1250 for single person and $2500 for joint filers, regardless of income.
In the end, Walz and his side came to the final decision of giving back $260 per individual or $520 for joint filers and an additional $260 per dependent child (caps at 3). So a household with 2 parents, that filed jointly with 3 dependents could see back $1300 total. That is, if the parents make under $75k individually or under $150k combined.
Doing all the math based on available numbers of current dependents (this is a rough estimate, could be + or - 10%) and folks that filed taxes in MN, using Walz's proposal of $260 per individual means when all is said and done, they will have roughly returned $1.5bil of that $3bil surplus. Where the fuck is the other $1.5bil going?
On top of it all, the state is raising taxes on things that'll impact most people - like the gas tax is going up over the next few years. A tax on deliveries - a $0.50 tax on packages valued at more than $100 that started this past July 1. These fuckers can go about raising taxes or setting new taxes on things, but they can't return the full rebate to the people? What a bunch of fucking ass hats.
Anyway, by sometime towards the end of the year many MN residents are supposed to see this half-assed tax rebate show up in their mail box or bank account (depending on how they filed their taxes).
